Golden Ghetto Reconciliation Sunday

Great mention of competing religious philosophy from this town's foremost faith blogger and brief celebration of monotheism that hopefully won't trigger more sensitive readers. Checkit:

Two Johnson County Churches Bridge Centuries-Old Theological Schism

Two neighboring Catholic and Lutheran churches in Johnson County are trying to repair some of the epic rupture to Christianity caused 501 years ago by a Catholic monk named Martin Luther. Luther, without really meaning to, started the Protestant Reformation by publishing a list of 95 matters he thought church leaders should debate.

Lutherans are heretics.
Until they renounce the madman Luther and return to the Catholic Church, they will be lost.
That priest should know this.

Their hearts are in the right place but it was the Lutherans who left communion with the Church Christ founded and the burden is on them to return. There is no obligation on the Church to do anything other than open the door. There will be no compromise on the central doctrines on the Eucharist and so they cannot receive it without committing a grave sin unless they accept the rest of Church doctrine. And that's before we get into the other feminist/LGBT issues with the ELCA. This is a little like the prodigal son who instead of coming home repentant, runs out of money and suggests that he and dad get an apartment together somewhere in between.
