COWTOWN HOUSING CRISIS 2018: THE YEAR KANSAS CITY LEARNED TO HATE GENTRIFICATION AND HIGHER RENT!!!

Rents spikes and higher taxes push the Kansas City middle-class into the same predicament as the working poor.

And so, like most cities across the nation. KCMO is considering the price of development.

This afternoon NYT offers a glimpse at the big picture . . .

New York Times: Happy New Year! May Your City Never Become San Francisco, New York or Seattle Or Portland, Denver, Boston, Dallas, Houston or Los Angeles.

Interlude . . . It's a source of constant disappointment for locals that our politicos can't focus on life in KCMO rather than engaging in a losing economic subsidy battle with bigger towns in a self-perpetuating game that never benefits longtime residents.

Now, here's the tease and the main point in a missive that mentions Kansas City . . .

"Denver seemed to imply no obvious meaning until The Kansas City Star’s editorial board assigned it one last month. “Stop the Denverization of Kansas City,” its headline said. Befuddled readers in Denver realized their city was now a synonym for gentrification — at least, among cities not yet expensive enough to worry about San Francisco-ization."

The reality is that the column was actually about higher prices on the East side and the constant struggle for political control by Black leaders who feel threatened by new hipster neighbors and use urban planner code to disguise a racially motivated ploy for neighborhood control. Of course, MSM misses the bigger issue. It's not urban renewal in the urban core threatening inner city low-rent tenants which is moving the dial for locals.

Instead, EPIC prices boosted by downtown speculation have also spiked housing costs in Midtown, Plaza, Brookside, South KC and among middle-class homes that have been heretofore shielded from the sketchy real estate game.

The result . . . Otherwise conservative souls have shifted their views on affordable housing complaints and realize they too can be quickly priced out of their own market.

This recent and late discovery inside the corridor threatens to further impact the real estate market in KCMO which we'll discover in our next feature set for tomorrow morning powered by EXCLUSIVE INSIDER INFO that will change the course of local home ownership history FOREVER.

  1. Can agree about higher rents in west plaza. Paying 3 grand a month just to see the lights is a bridge too far.

    1. Kansas City has always loved a good con job. This town has been molded by some of the best scammers the nation has ever seen and now the good times continue. Just another day on the job for one of many schemes.

    2. Westport needed the higher rents in order to get the gangsters out. It's a pain but just look at Morningside. Can you argue that higher rent wouldn't improve the problem?

  2. ^^^^^^^^ STUPID! I think that's the point here. KC loves it when the rent is raised on SOMEBODY ELSE but when it happens to them, then it becomes a crisis.

  3. Build the wall. That will help solve the problems.

  4. sLIE’s plan is working! To hell with you poor slobs, GET THE HELL OUT....... NOW! You people are doing nothing to support this town, sLIE is sick of you begging, whiny ass poor people, go away, your messing up sLIE’s utopia!

  5. 5:27 is dead on the money. Slie has been promoting removal of blight from the urban core. This blight, which comes in many forms, is definitely disfiguring Slie's utopia. Slie keeps pushing from all angles to accomplish this.

Local news claims KCMO has set a new murder record. If that is true it will be interesting to see how Slie covers that stain on his utopia.

The 25 million tourists will not be pounding down the door to get to KCMO.

  6. Most people that live downtown are homosexuals. Very similar to Denver, although we also have the Plaza, which is also overwhelming homosexual too.

  11. “Stop the Denverization of Kansas City,”
Denver has a quarter of our violent crime rate per capita and kicks our ass in so many other areas. I'd love to see Denverization here!

  14. Funny. Liberal gentrification is so hypocritical. Move in to black areas, jack up the cost of living forcing blacks out. Put in high security fences and access points while calling everyone else racist.

  20. We see the replacement of traditionally affordable rental and residential housing by shoddily built "luxury" units here in KCMO.

    Progress!

  21. The people willing to pay etaxes and reside in KC for the future of their families are really getting the worst deal. I don't mind development but when all of it is paid for by taxpayers that is worse. There is no reason we should be subsidizing 10 downtown hotels.

Sad that they can’t or won’t help themselves. Sad.
