CELEBRATE KANSAS CITY LOSERS AND WINNERS OF 2018!!!

The politics of Kansas City in 2018 grew increasingly divisive and offered quite a few surprises but mostly told a story of very rich people manipulating the hearts and minds of the fading middle-class in order to garner power with varying degrees of success.

And so, with respect to hottie Lucy and her crowning achievement body of work . . .

CHECK OUR EPIC LOCAL LIST OF POLITICOS WHO STAY LOSING & WINNING 2018!!!

Here's the quick and dirty recap of these electeds and their impact on the plebs . . .

THE LOSERS

1. Senator Claire McCaskill

She spent all of December ranting at women who actually won their elections. In the midst of a "Blue Wave" she believed that separating herself from "those crazy Democrats" would improve her likeability. She was totally wrong. Moreover, she ends her long career isolated from the NEXTGEN of progressives who seem to be making gains amid an increasingly polarized American discourse.

2. Former Missouri Governor Eric Grietens

A sex scandal of his own making brought him down in a kerfuffle that served to further strengthen the ranks of Missouri "gold old boys" and the Jeff City establishment who holds power by talking a great game when it comes to wedge issues and then mostly garnering some sweet deals from corporate visitors. For a politico, he's still relatively young and there's already talk of a comeback but the year of #MeToo ruined an otherwise EPIC carer that held White House aspirations and is now forced to cope with a lot of damage and a new cultural landscape.

3. Congressman Kevin Yoder

He ran a great campaign but the reality is that Johnson County has changed. The "Golden Ghetto" is now a progressive enclave that threatens to change all of Kansas if the momentum and the activism of white ladies persists. Nevertheless, unlike other losers on this list, during his last days in office he showed his skill as a statesman by thanking constituents and reflecting thoughtfully on his tenure. More than any other "loser" on the list . . . The Congressman is already poised for another chance to return to office.

4. Kansas SecState Kris Kobach

For such a well-educated and very smart man, the foibles of Kris Kobach with a toy gun during a JoCo parade defined a candidacy that was all bad style and very little substance. Even with the help of Prez Trump in a solid Red State and following a sketchy primary vote that many think was rigged . . . Mighty Kris Kobach suffered embarrassment at the hands of a politically moderate granny.

Moreover . . .

Kris Kobach is finished as an elected official. He's not going to be governor, Senator or hold office anywhere that matters in Kansas.

Look for Kobach on talk shows where his style makes a better fit and offers watchers the opportunity to change the channel when his routine invariably grows tiresome.

5. Mayor Sly James

After 8 years running Kansas City he's got nowhere to go. There's very little upside for this local power player who mostly leaves a legacy of rising urban core violence and corporate welfare following his tenure. While he's still the favorite of the local ruling class, Mayor Sly is no longer a local superstar as he finishes his term as a lame duck.

Interlude . . . Mike Sanders

Yes, the former Jackson County Exec and Missouri Democratic Party Chairman also deserves a mention because of his dramatic fall from grace and because he's now rotting away in the Federal pen . . . But there's no point in kicking a guy while he's done especially since every local politico and news outlet ignored his misdeeds and controversy while he was in office and didn't bother to say anything even remotely negative until the guy was safely behind bars. The FAIL of Mike Sanders mostly rests on so many cowards who call themselves "journalists" and elected officials.

THE WINNERS

5. Senator-Elect Josh Hawley

The so-called "Golden Boy" made the popularity of Prez Trump among Red State voters work to his advantage better than anybody else. His double talk during the camapign was obvious, he's not really likeable by any measure and even Republicans deride his dearth of real world experience. Nevertheless, he won big against a tough opponent with access to national media resources and the victory  of Josh Hawley deserves recognition.

4. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II

Now part of a Democratic Majority House the Congressman is stronger than he has ever been. There is no challenger capable of matching him in district and critics have no place to gain traction. Meanwhile, look for this elected official to continue to enjoy growing nationwide prominence and continue to captivate the talk show circuit with a great many EPIC quotes.

3. KCMO Council Ladies Heather Hall, Katheryn Shields & Teresa Loar

This is the team to watch among Kansas City power players. They don't always fall on the same side of every issue but when they work together, these council ladies are nearly unstoppable. On the topic of a new airport, MLK and so many critical local issues . . . Council ladies Hall, Shields & Loar will dominate local politics over the next 4 years more effectively than anyone else.

2. Jackson County Sheriff Forté & Executive Frank White

Power over the courthouse now rests with this team as they confront the difficulty of building a new jail and dealing with an Eastern Jack stronghold that's stripped a great deal of power away from the Exec and STILL can outvote him on the Legislature at whim. Nevertheless, there seems to be a détente for the moment following some significant wins for team Frank during 2018.

1. Congress-member-Elect Sharice Davids

Sharice Davids is the shining star of Heartland progressive politics. Powered by corporate cash and DNC infrastructure, her surprise victory shocked the nation and signaled a new era in Kansas politics. Sadly, detractors weren't able to beat her on policy issues and mostly attacked her with nothing but hate speech via nasty Internet comments. Again, Johnson County has changed. One of the most affluent enclaves in the Kansas City metro now confronts more crime, lower wages and challenges in healthcare and education. And so, voters have turned to Sharice Davids to speak to their concerns that weren't satisfied by Republican rhetoric. Nothing lasts forever but at the end of the year it's obvious that branding, image and a great deal of hype have propelled Sharice Davids to the to spot as Kansas City's greatest political winner of 2018.

And so, like it or not, these Kansas City winners and losers guide us into 2019.

    2. Agree with a few choices here but mostly the part about people playing the system for their own personal gain. THAT will likely be the theme of 2019 after a crackdown on that behavior.

  2. Just ask cleaver how he’s paying for a brand new senior citizen retirement community he’s building on 79th street, for somebody who claims to be the poorest elected official ever, he managed to come up with millions of taxpayer money to fund his future retirement income.

Managing to get a hundred million dollars wasted on the jazz district doesn’t put him on anybody’s good list.

  9. ^^^^^^ WINNER^^^^^^^

  10. The biggest losers are # 1) The citizens of this area. Every politico has screwed the regular working people of this area for too long. Everyone on your list of losers and winners has been one of the culprits in this action against the taxpayers.
It is time to get rid of all of these jack-wagons and let more reasonable and concerned people run the government. Not Sharice Davids, not Josh Hawley, Not S'lier James, the toy trainers or the group of nine running for mayor and definitely not Beaver Cleaver and Sheruff Forte and Frank White.
Power to the people in 2019!

  11. Loar has a long history of political corruption and ethical failures.
Her criminal conviction was tip of iceberg for dirty deals.
Shields knows not to trust her.
Hall will become tainted with corruption if she relies on Loar.

  12. How about Gopher? Wouldn't he be among the biggest losers?

  18. Teresa Loar has a criminal conviction? How come no one likes her? Is it bc she’s a nag? Bc she snipes? Bc she’s been in politics for 25 years and can’t find 6 other council members to side with her? Is it bc she’s always on the wrong side of the issues? Or is it related to the fact she drinks way too much??

    1. I think YOU are making that comment because she asks questions about the airport, she is going to get your friend fired AND because she makes fun of that LOSER Russ Johnson.

  19. Uh that LOSER Russ Johnson still is meddling in city affairs. You just don't hear about it. Of course when our media covers mostly cupcakes and hamburger joint grand openings and not politics..

  26. Sharice Davids is not a progressive. She has joined the New Democrat coalition, which is corporatist, not progressive. This is common among candidates supported by Emily's List, as Davids was.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @5:29 Name one thing Teresa Loar has accomplished? Besides enriching the local liquor store and aggravating her colleagues? Its not about getting someone fired on a personal vendetta, Teresa. It is about moving the public good forward. She is of poor results on both accounts. Teresa Loar is my nomination for loser of 2018 and will be of 2019. This business about her criminal conviction is intriguing. What more is the KC Star not reporting? Was she trying to get Crawford Architects hired again by the city so they would hire her daughter?

  28. Happy effing New Year Cowtown! A corrupt airport “deal” $1 Billion over initial cost estimates to kick off 2019 as the city wallows in the ditch of its own so called progress. This town needs to look itself in the mirror and grow up!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Correct @8:18 When you ram a square peg through a round hole at a private members only club this is what you get - a bad airport project from the start! The Mayor, city manager and Jolie are to blame. This is bull shit. If you start something wrong it will finish wrong. This airport is about to be the city’s downfall with expensive gating fees that chase off airlines and destroy economic and population growth. Way to go Jolie! Way to go you fat ass mayor and fat ass city manager. Go be a city manager someplace else and fuck up their city! Take your golden parachute and just get the fuck out of town. Too bad no one on the council has the balls to see all this and fire you! Or do they…? Happy New Year city manager Troy Schulte. Happy Happy 2019!!
