Country Club Plaza church may get razed for mixed-use tower - Kansas City Business Journal

A 12-story mixed-use project could be coming to the Country Club Plaza - after the potential demolition of a 76-year-old Romanesque-style church. According to plans submitted to the city's planning department, the Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist building would be demolished and replaced by a modern 12-story building that would include apartments, retail, offices and space for a church.

So the Sly Reich has some camps somewhere to offload all the displaced? All the old geezers he isn't building this shining city on a plain for?

Sorry Jesus don't like this old decrepit building anymore and desires a luxury mixed use big box.

And the Pope says grab and go first floor retail is future!

Damn, they're bulldozing churches to create more space for random gun violence

Ah just what we need to be competitive with less expensive Overland Park.

More dust, noise, and chaos on the Plaza.

Build it and they will come we tell ya!

Will it include a game lawn, Foosball room, pool, and beer pong platform? I'm not paying luxury prices without those conveniences.

Bulldozing for Jesus

Dear lord, may all the unwashed and poor be sent elsewhere, far far away from our shiny new tax abated wonder of the world here on the magnificent plaza.. and we'll need a designated area for baptisms on brush creek.

The Plaza will be deader in more ways than one than Kelsey's nuts in 7 years.

Come relocate to the marvelous (darling) serene, exclusive and sophisticated Plaza. Have a shake!

Jesus doesn’t see the Plaza as a viable location for prayer and worship. There are way too many homosexuals and negroes at the Plaza now. Moving to southern Joco, where there are a lot of hot sluts.

It's a beautiful, historic, building...which, in Kansas City, means it's doomed.

1) this is a super awesome building, worthy of creative repurposing regardless of his history as a church.
2)historic kansas city is an outdated organization that is trying to put their reactionary noses into a smelly pile that they have been unable to have effective mediation over for over a decade. Why, because the same people who pay them off to preserve the plaza, also make plans to demolish and build new towers (jonathan kemper, doug price, bloch ect..)
3)the church is not a historic landmark
4) historic kansas city has wasted thousands of dollars in grant money to "research" and "preserve" the plaza while letting it go to hell in a handbasket. this is largely due to the fact that they have an inoperable board comprised of people who thought preservation was "fashionable" in the 1980s and 1990s. these same hobbyists play their political games to elect weak "politicians" such as shields. pretending to champion the interests of neighborhoods.

Of all the 19th century American-made heresies I'd say the Christian scientists are my favorite, although the LDS is a romping good time too.
