TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY COUNCIL DUDE QUINTON LUCAS TALKS MLK NAME CHANGE ON THE PASEO!!!

As his campaign confronted immense difficulty following a sketchy DUI bust the 3rd District Councilman became much more aggressive as a proponent of the MLK name change and in this worthwhile interview he defends his actions and shares some of the responsibility with his colleagues . . .

Northeast News: Third District Councilman Quinton Lucas discusses the potential name change of Paseo Boulevard

Highlight:

Today, as he becomes a vocal proponent for the name change, much hostility from those against it have directed their anger at him.

“I will note, by the way, that it’s not just me. In a number of these forums I was at, almost every at-large council member, except maybe Scott Wagner, said ‘yeah we would do it too,’” Lucas commented. “This isn’t about trying to make some big change.”

For Lucas, it is about properly representing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Many in support of this change think The Paseo represents exactly what Dr. King represented: peacefulness and acceptance. The Paseo is known for having incredible ethnic diversity, and therefore, in the eyes of supporters, would be something Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud of.

And so we ask . . .

IS THIS ISSUE A WINNER FOR KANSAS CITY COUNCIL DUDE QUINTON OR A SIGN OF DESPERATION AFTER HIS CLEAN CUT IMAGE HAS BEEN CHALLENGED?!?

You decide . . .

  1. He would have been a fine mayor. Now the task has fallen to Jolie Justus, the only one who can balance so many special interests in KCMO.

    2. 63rd street should be the play here, the problem it's a weak response. We need people to speak up for it and provide some leadership. Just saying no to the clergy isn't enough, it's better to have a plan this it more workable and has a funding mechanism. If somebody, anybody at City Hall had more initiative, they would come up with a viable ordinance for 63rd WITH a funding mechanism and move forward with the conversation instead of just running in circles as usual with KC.

  2. Too bad Quentie does not wish to obey our drunk driving laws. renaming the Paseo after James Earl Ray would be a much better idea. He was born in Missouri and I don't think King ever even set foot in Kansas City.
By the way, has Quentie come all the way out yet?

    Gross.

  4. Decide this issue already.

Talking about it for another year or even during the election takes away from more important issues.

  5. Is this to appease the coloreds, who have been left completely behind during Sly's regime?

Put MLK down the middle of 18th & Vine and let it come out of money for the district. Then we'll see some opposition.

  12. Hasn’t Quinton benefited enough from affirmative action? Affirmative action does not include being able to ignore drunk driving laws.

  13. They should rename it, that way people who are lost will see MLK and know to get the hell out of there. Actually, Prospect would be better.

  16. Quinton is right on the money with this issue.

Personally, I'm a fan of the 63rd street option but his legislation at least brings the issue to the forefront.

As for all these old racists crying about their wasted lives, screw'em. They all live in the shitty part of KCK and their opinion doesn't matter even to their relatives on thanksgiving.

    Sorry.

  18. Support The Dream, Not On Rev Team11/20/18, 6:45 PM

I see the Northeast News mentioned the licensing fee that the King family will take from KC in perpetuity. It's a shame that we don't get to vote on this, I suspect there would be more resistance than most of the Revs realize, that's why they want it done behind Council closed doors instead of having a real vote like the initially threatened.

  21. Lucas should revive Cash for Clunkers, Shovel ready jobs? Still ready. Cop's. Have a beer with one. Free school breakfasts for thirty year old unemployed men. That would give his image a boost after the drinking thing.

  25. MLK would not be proud of negroes in 2018. He would be dismayed at how many negroes live off welfare. He would call Black Lives Matter for what it is, complete lies.

  28. NOTE TO COUNCILMAN LUCAS:

Dr. King himself would be opposed to stripping an existing street or structure of it's current name, only to be supplanted with his moniker.

Did you learn nothing from his words and example?

  29. Blacks prove everyday why they will never progress further than they have. As a culture, they’ve got serious problems, but what is their priority? Renaming a street over a person that’s been dead for half a century. Whites have problems too, but thankfully their focus is more relevant than naming a street after JFK.
