TKC FACT CHECK: ELECTRIC SCOOTERS SHOUDLN'T BE ON KANSAS CITY STREETS & SIDEWALKS IN SNOW AND ICE!!!
Amid growing injuries, nuisance and blocking other transit, this latest snow blast presents a problem for Kansas City's newest form of transit.
To wit . . .
TRENDY ELECTRIC SCOOTERS HAVE AGREED TO VACATE KANSAS CITY STREETS DURING BAD WEATHER BUT OUT AWESOME TKC BLOG COMMUNITY SEES THEM LITTERING SIDEWALKS!!!
Here's a reasonable question . . .
AWESOME TKC READER: "I wonder how all those Bird and Lime Scooters are doing today? The hipsters are probably in withdrawal without being able to ride them. And storefront merchants have to deal with the nuisance of Scooters in they way of their snow and ice removal from sidewalks."
Moreover . . .
KMBC reminds us that a City agreement says scooters should be removed in "anticipation of snow"
To be fair, there are fewer scooters around than we normally see but today's bad weather and tough road conditions should remind us that the scooters are a lot of fun but not really a viable transit solution for everyone.
You decide . . .
We need to start giving tickets to scooter riders, they are causing an amazing amount of danger on local streets.
ReplyDeleteAs far as littering goes, the companies should face a fine.
Totally saw a guy try to make a scooter work for him this morning. It was a good effort but no joy. Only got a few blocks before the thing shut down and he had to come up with a new plan. An Uber.
DeleteTo be fair, if you can't keep up with the way normal people live their lives in 2018, shut your geezer mouth.
ReplyDelete^^^^^
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, if you can't tell the difference between a nuisance and danger that normal people don't need in their lives in 2018, shut your future geezer mouth.
^^^No, I’m with the geezer hater on this. Adapt or perish. People are sick of your constant complaining. If you’re not riding one, sit your mouth. Nobody wants your worthless opinions.
ReplyDeleteMost people who comment here don’t believe what they say. They’re trying to see what offensive, threatening, hateful thing they can simply to try to inflict harm on others.
ReplyDeleteNo stable person can have the level of lifelong pathological hatred over things like:
Scooters
The Streetcar
Traffic lights
Mizzou
Downtown KC
MoDOT
Some guy named Turner that everyone here makes death threats to but no one knows who he is
..like what gets said on these comments threads.
Just like Twitter, “what can I say to piss people off and get attention?”
Cops are pussies.
ReplyDelete@11:55 are you trying to tell us that ALL COPS are Republican Pickup Truck Driving Trump Supporters?
ReplyDeleteReally?
11:42 you’re an idiot
ReplyDeleteMust be a slow day at city hall as the city minions are out in full force on TKC today.
ReplyDeleteKCMO scooter hipsters must not let St. Louis out do them. KCMO riders need to hit 2 trees and lose lives.
ReplyDeleteYes the like the ceo of bird is going to come to kc and load his made in china crap into the back of a truck for neat storage during bad weather.
ReplyDeleteFreezing weather will moderate use of scooters of course.
ReplyDeleteI don't see how these companies can make money off a business model where scooters can be left anywhere to be stolen or damaged or vandalized by the public. Twice I've seen a scooter on the woodswether bridge over the Kaw for days and eventually it was gone or maybe a bum just threw it into the river.

Keep riding. We need to thin the herd of homosexual hipsters
ReplyDeleteSaw hipster dude putting chains on his scooter.
ReplyDeleteELECTRIC SCOOTERS SHOUDLN'T BE ON KANSAS CITY STREETS & SIDEWALKS IN SNOW AND ICE!!!
ReplyDeleteNeither should hipsters if truth be told
Do we sue the city when we get hit on a sidewalk. Neoliberalism is complicated.
ReplyDelete^^^You could if you left your house, do thete’s That.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the snowplow operators can be convinced it is their civic duty to push these homocycles into their next big pile of snow.
ReplyDeleteKCMO TOYTRAIN VS. ELECTRIC SCOOTERS
ReplyDeleteAccording to available internet sources that have tracked the KCMO streetcar development, the cost of the starter line was $102 million (2014 dollars) and the projected cost of the extension is $227 million (2019 dollars). Additionally, the annual estimated operating cost for the system started at about $4 million.
When buying in bulk, the cost of a rechargeable electric scooter is approximately $100 per unit.
KCMO has a total population of approximately 470,000 residents, and the entire KC Metropolitan Area (15 counties spread across 2 states) includes 2.34 million residents.
Doing the simple math, and generously excluding the cumulative operating expenses to-date gives us:
($329M streetcar construction cost) divided by ($100 scooter cost) = 3,290,000 scooters OR a rechargeable electric scooter for every resident in the 15-county metropolitan area WITH $95 million dollars to spare. And no on-going annual operating expenses for new streetcar bureaucracy.
They really do look like freaking idiots riding these things.
ReplyDeleteLOL
the projected cost of the extension is $227 million (2019 dollars)
ReplyDeleteIt's $290 mil now.
The first toy train was $160 million, they don’t want you to know that, with that said it’ll be right at $400 million total for 5.9 miles. I think they’re waiting for it to equal $100 million a mile, sLIE has people that need more money. Sure sounds like a terrible waste of money to me.
ReplyDelete^^^ Sounds about right. Will Trump partially finance gay daves newest toy? Thats the real question.
