Southwest hopes to make Kansas City into mid-continent connecting hub

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV/AP) -- The city was forced Thursday to delay a deal on building a new airport after a dispute between the airlines on paying for the project. On Wednesday, an official with Southwest Airlines had some interesting things to say about Kansas City International Airport.

  1. Call it the “sLIE James mid-continent airport”? My god we’ve slid down the pole a long way with with him at the wheel. How much lower can we go, man, This is getting really embarrassing

  2. wow, this actually sounds promising! good news!

let's get going and iron out the issues.

and, as to the hyperbolic accounts of costs, let's be realistic and work those out too, please.

    go kc progress!

Let Southwest sign on the dotted line to pay for it all and let's go. Oh, wait,,,,,,,

What would KC be without SW hub here? Just another top 5 killa shitty.

Actually, if Sly James had not been involved, along with rest of crooked council, this might have been a positive move if handled properly.

As it stands, remodel KCI and let SW Airlines go away, if that's their decision. This city cannot be ultimately on hook for 4B plus for 40 yrs.

  6. 1. every image shown technically does not show a single terminal. It shows a terminal on the roadside and terminal on the runway side. By all means, just do what SW airlines and edgemoor tell you.

  7. 2. Technically the renderings show 3 teminals. You enter the front and there is a terminal to the right, terminal to the left, and then walk a long causeway with the sewage utilities beneath you, and go to runway terminal. The Security when you walk in is in the middle, and then you walk behind the ticket counters to go to the right or left terminal, or forward to the 3rd terminal. And everything else is mostly shoved in there somewhere too between the road and the runway at the site of terminal A.

  8. what happens when you remove teh flt &arrivals from termianl A and ri[ out the parking at terminal C, and make an addition at the tips of terminal B which we can call the 't' or 'T'.

    -------terminal C
    fountain
    rolling fields of wheat
    flight arrivals & departures
    access to exterior past security
    --------terminal B
upper level flight arrivals & departures
lower level baggage pickup at the tips
lower level passenger pickup at the tips
    pre-authorized security parking
    access to exterior past security
    --------terminal A
    lower level cargo/freight
lower level/ground level interior pre-authorized security parking
    lower level public surface parking
    upper levels public garage parking

    T=
    upper level passenger drop off
    Security
    lower level baggage
    lower level passenger pickup

  9. while waiting for your flight at terminal C, you can go outside, stroll around the fountain in the rolling fields of wheat while having a beer.

  10. how about a slots-only casino?

also, assuming that pay toilets will be reinstalled, like a couple of decades ago. but make sure the pay apparatus accepts credit cards.

airline lounges need to be back, too. if southwest doesn't want to build an a-lister lounge, maybe the best solution would be a lounge that's $20 to enter for anybody one time.

with weed becoming legal, it may become necessary to have two smoking lounges.

a fitness club with good showers and lockers would be neat.

marriott may not want a terminal-connected hotel competitor, but it wpuld be great if southwest is making kansas city a hub.

  11. you would thing there going to be a lot of temporary construction no matter what way you look at this project, maybe that is best served by shuffling around the gates and ticket counters during construction instead of batting it all off by ripping out terminal A.

  12. BUILD THAT FOUNTAIN!

  13. do any airports have rental cubicles, with electricity and access to other amenities?

  14. 250 may be an efficient solution: let southwest design it.

  15. In a worst-case scenario during construction, Omaha has quite a few airlnes with good flights.

  16. porta potties and shuttling workers from The Parking Spot to the terminal is NOT is the budget.

  17. Remodel and build high speed rail down the center of I 29 and over the new Broadway Bridge. To the city they flew to, not some high dollar airport mall with a shortage of employees.

  19. This is nothing more than a power grab by sly and the gang at city hall. This will be a huge deciding factor in the mayoral race i.e. win this and you're a shoe into city hall. Jolie justice is going to have to pull off 1. Find a way to get Burns & macdonald involved since she and everyone at city hall owes them. 2. Keep Quinton Lucas out while not seeming racist. 3. Have the first shovel hit the deck by jan 1st 2019. They screw this up and put the taxpayers on the hook to pay for this they can kiss any tax hike away for a long long time. Do we need a new airport? Yes but this like so many things has gone sideways. What they should have done is hire a third party to manage this and stay out. But of course city hall like washington thinks they're our gods and knows what's best for us. Then again city hall would fuck up a two-car funeral!
