SHOW-ME GAS TAX SHUT DOWN!!!

Missouri voters rejected this high priced bit of local trickery that wasn't really going to fix any streets. Take a look:

Missouri voters reject higher gas tax

Missouri voters have turned down a proposal that would have raised the state's gas tax to help pay for road and bridge improvements. Proposition D voted down on Tuesday, would have increased the state's 17-cent-per-gallon tax, which is among the lowest in the nation, by 10 cents a gallon.

  2. I don't see Missouri getting better roads or bridges. This was a very short sighted decision by voters. But then this whole election was full of that.

  3. Only vehicle owners should have been allowed to vote on this one. Potholes here we come.

  4. When the legislature puts a measure on the ballot where the gas tax would go 100% for roads and bridges then it might get majority support. But when funds get diverted to all types of non highway measures people won't support it.

  5. Poor idea to give so much to the HP and so little to roads and bridges .
    Poor idea from the start.

  6. Hey, 7:34, fuel taxes in Missouri are Constitutionally designated and cannot be diverted like they do in Kansas. Educate yourself before posting. In Kansas, the fuel tax is 24 cents a gallon for gasoline, 26 for diesel, but the Kansas Legislature consistently dips into what's referred to the Bank of KDOT to supplement the general fund. Its ruinous for both their highways and for good government.

  7. Yes, 8:46, constutionally designated to highway safety which includes highway patrol. Educate YOURself.

  8. The highway patrol 2 step was in part to get around something in state Constitution about HP funding via fuel user fees. I didn't like it either but I think that was the initial germ of that idea. I too mistrusted HP with a big cookie jar like that to give themselves raises and ride us hard on pensions and overtime and out of town trainings and seminars etc.
