Newspaper Touts Kansas City German Irish Ethnically Profiling Other White People

Terence O'Malley is a decent local documentary moviemaker but he's also kind of a hack and take far too much pleasure in playing up old school salacious mob history.

His tactics are also kinda sketchy, he talks a good game to really nice old Italian ladies and then uses their photos to compile tabloid drama of a mostly forgotten mob era.

All of this is obvious when his work on the Pedergast Irish Mob seems almost nostalgic and sentimental compared with this other investigations.

And so . . . This weekend the newspaper is promoting his old school ethnic rivalry perspective for the few of us who are interested in Kansas City history.

Mafia film festival Thanksgiving weekend in Kansas City | The Kansas City Star

Why do some people have an enduring fascination with a group that was essentially a bunch of cold-blooded murdering thugs? Gary Jenkins says he has part of the answer when it comes to the Mafia and its long, colorful history in Kansas City.

Remember Mothers the Civella's place on Main? When they blew each other up after hours in the Quay area, they ruined a thriving place. The only good thing was the Northeast area was crime free not like the blighted part of town it is today. As an Italian myself, my family didn't want any part of the mob, so no fascination here, just good food and huge families.

so, I am working in retail on the floor at Brandsmart in 1979 and in comes Nick Civella and Tuffy Deluna. I know who they are, I had ppurchased a bar from Jimmy Duarte and dealt with him for a couple of years, no mean feat. Jesus...

Anyway, Nick buys a TV from me. He and Tuffy, knew me kind of, because of the bar purchase and they are very nice. I am very nice too. ( (: )

Anyway, it is a big sale and I am top sales guy so the owner wants me on the floor for the whole day. Nick calls me and says he doesn't know how to work the remote control. Remotes were a new thing in 1978. I tell him, "Lemme ask if I can come over to fix it Mr. Civella."

He says, and I quote, "You do that kid." (I am 28 years old.)

( :) )

I tell the owner and he says, "No way chuck, we are busy as hell, you can go on Monday". (It's a Saturday.)

Nick says, and I quote, "Put that cocksucker on the phone."

Of course, I can't help it, I think this shit is funny, so I put the owner of the phone.

After about 20 to 30 seconds, the owner puts his hand over the mouthpiece and says, "Get your ass over there right away!"

I get back on the phone with Nick, explain to him that I am swamped and ask permission to send one of the kids who can fix it easily and if that if he is not happy, I will go over right away, but it should be no big deal.

He says, "Okay chuck."

Luckily I never had to deal with Tuffy. What a baadasssss. Fuckin Duarte was even worse.

The movie scene in "The Godfather", where the ice pick gets stuck into a guys hand in the bar, was actually taken from a real life event, right here in KC, on 85th St. where Jimmy Duarte stuck and ice pick through a guys hand and stuck him on the bar, like a fuckin nail in Jesus' cross.

Now that's - workin for a livin.

By the way, the FBI (Back when they were honest.) came and questioned me about Jimmy Duarte and that fuckin Indian he ran around with.

I didn't know shit thank God and told them I didn't know shit.

They were probably tapping my phone, following me to the Plaza, Fanny's and amazed at all the beautiful girls.

All Irish people are thugs. They just do the best job pretending they are not.

Chuck---Did Nick give you a "red pepper"?

The mob kept the blacks in their place. Town has gone to hell after they loss their envulance.

I used to hang out at the red front a lot a few years ago. Heard some interesting stories up there, and saw a highly respected visitor with a special parking spot come in from time to time. You will see some of the same people hanging around red front down the street at Anthony’s (which has amazing Italian food).

^^^Same thing, around the corner at The Caddy Shack, on 3rd Street. But they do have really good pizzas.

Half-wit Dego Wops.
When will people finally let this shit go.
It's not something to have a film fest about.

Well that’s all fine and dandy chuck, except for Two things: you’re a know liar. Don’t believe one word of any of it. The second thing is you’re also boring as shit too. You talk too fucking much and don’t know when to shut up. Nick would never have abided you. Had any of that really happened, rest assured it would have been you with the ice pick in your ear.

Chuck I read your bullshit and just smiled and shook my head.

9:21---I know what the "red pepper" means and what it represented and know that it didn't mean you were part of the "families' but know how important it was and could be to have one and seriously doubt you had one.

More racist bullshit. There are bad people of every ethnicity. Further example of small town small minded bullshit.

Gawd you fuckin weirdos are as bad as Trump haters.

Why would I lie about selling a fuckin TV?

It's not like I pretended Nick was my best friend. I am sure he never thought about me again in his life. And yes, dumb fucks, I bought a bar from Jimmy Duarte back in the mid 70's.

Fuckin whack jobs. Jesus...

Antonucci (sp?) Ballestreri, Bonadonna, Civella, and an ample listing to the "Zs" of local Italian families have provided much good around metro KC. Yeah, there's some sinners, some saints, and shades between in all of us no matter the sway of our DNA.
