Kansas Kris Kobach Embarrassing Defeat Identifies Prez Trump Achilles Heel???

Progressives across the nation are taking notice of the downfall of a Kansas contender. Take a look at some of the more nuanced thinking from the East Coast:

Is Kris Kobach's Defeat in Kansas a Model for How to Beat Trumpism?

Maybe there is actually something right with Kansas. Yesterday, Democrats in the traditionally conservative state trounced the Republican candidate Kris Kobach in the race for governor, providing a potential playbook for how Trumpism can be defeated.

  1. Kansas has done this before, early 2000's nothing new here. There is also a lot of Sharice Davids with daddy issues moving into the area. Some of the areas in Overland Park have gone down really fast, lots of gays and blacks. The thing is, are they going to go back next time with better republicans or will they end up like KCMO?

  2. This loss by Kobach has more to do with Sam Brownback than Anything else. Brownback's tax cuts hurt schools and dug a deep hole in Kansas. Kris should have detailed his plan more and the differences. Tony, to say this has more to do with Trump is wrong. If that were the case, then how did the Republicans gain seats in the senate? One thing about kansans i have noticed. When running for office, schools are off limit. You can offer to introduce the death penalty but don't mess with school funding. As a Missourian,i don't blame them.

  4. I would have to disagree that Brownback was the cause for Kobach's loss.

Kobach's own extremism and intransigence defeated him, his inability to even acknowledge that anyone might have an opinion different from his indicated that he could not act as a Governor of all the people.

Political effectiveness requires compromise, and absolutism on either the right or left ends of the political spectrum can only carry one so far. The narrow margin of his victory in gaining the nomination should have indicated to him that a willingness to consider other points of view was going to be required, but instead he only hardened his intransigence.

First get elected, then demonstrate your extremism!
You already own your follower's souls!

Now all you have left is the chance to become another disposable Kleenex in Trump's Cabinet!

  5. @7:37 You are correct about the school funding. Which is what the Legislature cut after the Brownback tax cuts. Not waste or fraud or bloated bureaucracy, school funding. And then blamed Brownback. Then the Kansas Supreme Court said they weren't spending enough. As if budgetary priorities were now under the jurisdiction of the Judiciary. Kansas pays nearly $14,000 per pupil each year. And for what? Are Kansas' students better educated than a generation ago?
The Johnson County RINOs and Democrats were successful in demonizing Phil Kline, then Brownback, and finally Kobach.
Kobach made a decision to appeal to Trump voters and stress illegal immigration, an issue he has ham handedly dealt with in the past.
Plus there was Orman to muddy the waters.
Kansans are destined for higher property taxes. I just don't think they care.

  6. ^^^ Jesus fucking Christ. Have you seen our property taxes now? Who was it that raised them? Oh, that's right, Republicans (Link below). Who had the highest tax increase in state history? Brownback did. These are undeniable facts but you'll probably call them fake news. Demonizing douchebags like Kline (remember his Johnson County address that was a shed?) Brownback, and Kobach? They earned their bad reputations and deserve the monikers. Hell, Brownback will never be able to return to Kansas he is so hated. Give us a fucking break with all your page one bullshit of Democrats just raise taxes. Your party does it all the time. You also conveniently forget about deficits when in powered too. Let's not forget your messiah, well before Trump anyways, Ronald Reagan raised taxes 10 times and the debt ceiling 17 times. But all's Democrats do is raise taxes though!

What a joke you are. The courts and the cuts of popular programs were the cause of the Brownback tax increases. You can't both argue that Brownback's tax cut was horrible, and then blame him for raising taxes. Typical liberal hypocrisy. And why was the tax increased passed? Did any Democrats oppose it? No.

So with all that said, do you really think I was wrong in saying that property taxes were going to increase in Kansas? No.
