The fortunes of the newspaper industry continue to fade as the owner of the Kansas City daily rag attempt to transition into a glorified blog in order to chase profitability . . . Good luck with that . . .

some mcclatchy newspapers we read out of town look better and appear more vibrant than the star.
ReplyDeletePublic call: When the end finally comes and publication halts, could a Kansas City entrpreneur please buy the leftovers and publish a paper paper once or three times a week?
ReplyDeleteAdvertisers will still be game for paper advertising once or twice a week, maybe even more so.
But rationalize distribution costs somehow. Maybe give paper away free or sell for 50 cents at grocery stores and restaurants. Sign on Starbucks and other coffee shops, too.
We'll always benefit from a paper paper as a community.
@ 8:40 Sounds great. Perhaps we should call it, "The Pitch."
ReplyDelete^^^ that’s funny right there!
ReplyDelete843, you might be right, really.
ReplyDeleteI listen to BJ and Ellen in AM and channel surf the local TV stations at night. It is such a shame that they read out of the Falling Star for their news stories. If it is not in the Star then it is not news.
ReplyDeleteI predicted long ago that TKC would acquire The Kansas City Star remaining assets for ONE DOLLAR at their bankruptcy sale.
ReplyDeleteBut, but, but where would Dave Helling pop up.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the almighty Dave Helling will leave town.
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^^ Lulz!
ReplyDeleteShort their stock and make a mint!
ReplyDeleteAt the same time- encourage them to hire more brainiacs like Donovan or any idiot savants for the editorial board. The opinion people help make money by dividing people and alienating half of any remaining readers.
Just be sure to keep shorting the stock.
The reason they missed earnings is simple. No one wants to pay $25 a week for the quality of the newspaper. It sucks. The editorial board is a bunch of socialists no one wants to hear from or care about. Their investigations (like the one today) are a joke. I sure would not pay over $800 a year for that rag. I wouldn't pay half that!
ReplyDeleteFourth quarter results prediction: McClatchy misses earnings.....AGAIN!
