Basically, this Kansas City mayoral hopeful argues that people marching dictate his policy decisions.
Here's his far more eloquent and convoluted explanation:
Northeast News: Guest Column by Councilman Quinton Lucas
Money line:
3rd District At-Large Councilman Quinton Lucas: "I believe the hundreds of people who marched asking for a name change and the others who have spent years asking for a chance to share why they support a name change deserve a hearing, not the bureaucratic maze in which everyone claims to support some honor, but no one does anything . . . Here’s the deal. People deserve a hearing. Not a circus. With the delays, it’s hard for one not to think about Dr. King’s suggestion that issues like this “merely bring to the surface tension that is already alive.” Rather than burying it again or moving the debate to another neighborhood, another commission, or another City Council, Kansas City can and should decide, either through its Council or at the ballot, how to honor Dr. King."
Read his column in its entirety.
You decide . . .
ReplyDeleteWell of course he does he's so into Black Lives Matter that he is going to cost the city tons of money to pay MLK's family money from tax payers EVERY YEAR not to mention signage just to change the name of a street and mark his territory.
It would be cheaper if he just pissed on a tree like every other dog.
Why honor the man when people don't follow his life except when it's politically to their advantage? And fuck his family for pimping out his name for money! Leave Paseo alone and move on to important problems in our city. We aren't Memphis.
ReplyDeleteThere's ice on every dammaged side street in this city right now and THIS is your priority Mr. Lucas?!?! Give me the good old days when Mayors actually ran cities and had a plan to make them better. This whole MLK thing is a farce to give him a legacy. Why i have no idea considering all black mayors hidden job is to get as much federal money to pass out to their people as possible. Case and point, i give you Sly James.
ReplyDeleteWhat would you expect from a drunk driving closeted homosexual?
ReplyDeleteWhen will we find out how much money we have to pay the king family for using his name? When will we find out how much we’re already paying them for naming a park and a school after him?
ReplyDeleteHe’s trying to buy votes from the fat fake revs and it’s not gonna work, to bad we will have to pay for his failed sorry ass attempt to get votes to be mayor. It’s only taxpayer money right? Sad.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the KCMO population who wants to keep it as it is.
ReplyDeleteIs this a position by Lucas which is representing the majority of KC?
How about creating a taxing district 6 blocks on either side of the Paseo to pay for all aspects of the renaming???

Nothing repels business investment and traffic to an area faster than naming it MLK. Bad illogical move on so many levels it boggles the mind it is being seriously considered.
ReplyDeleteOther people's money.
ReplyDeleteAll the above = truth.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened with his DUI? Last I read his court appearance was November 7?
ReplyDeleteDismissed privately.
DeleteWhat does that mean ?

ReplyDeleteDemocrat LGBTers want to rename it "RuPaul Runway"--to honor THEIR hero.
theoretically, it may make more sense running perpendicular to paseo
ReplyDeletecleaver II blvd should have been MLK, want to change blue parkway?
ReplyDelete1. MLK blvd
ReplyDelete2. Quindaro
3. African american heritage trail
Does the African American heritage trail go to quindaro?
i do not look at kansas city and feel in awe of white heritage.
ReplyDeleteJust name the whole shithole hood after him. Call it MLK Welfare Ghetto
ReplyDelete30% of voters are African American.
ReplyDeleteMLK rename locks up the base.
Easily enough to keep him in the top 2 as the top black candidate.
On to the general...
30% base requires another 20% to win.
Simple math, that's 28.14% of the remaining 70% of votes.
Lucas easily gets a third of them, especially with 10% coming from Latinos.
Solid base + a third of rest = Lucas in a landslide.
That's why Vegas favors Lucas.
28.57% but still, great points.
