FORMER MAYOR KAY BARNES WINS 2018 KANSAS CITIAN OF THE YEAR!!!

More than any other politico, Former Kansas City Mayor Barnes defines the local collusion betwixt big biz and City Hall.

And now . . .

THE CHAMBER CROWNS KAY BARNES 2018 KANSAS CITIAN OF THE YEAR!!!

During her tenure they called her Country Club Kay, Credit Card Kay and TIF Kay . . .

But we dug up this old school graphic tribute sent our way as she is more accurately described as "Cabaret Kay" for her song and dance about sketchy local bennies for millions in subsidy of already rich corporations.

Here's the presser copy sent to newsies for the late night . . .

Barnes is 2018 Kansas Citian of the Year

Kay Barnes, who championed a renaissance of Kansas City’s Downtown, was honored as the 2018 Kansas Citian of the Year.

Barnes received the honor Tuesday night at the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner. The event, fittingly, was held in the Kay Barnes Ballroom at the Kansas City Convention Center.

Serving as mayor from 1999-2007, Barnes supported and ramped up a rebirth of Downtown. Her biggest achievement was helping negotiate a trio of interrelated projects — the headquarters of H&R Block Inc., Sprint Center and the Kansas City Power & Light District — that transformed an underused and blighted expanse into a new center of Downtown activity . . .

  3. I get it she was not bad, and pushed for the sprint center. Still, she was a democrat and crime didn’t go away. Why is it democrat politicians just keep accepting crime as something normal? Giuliani took a stand so why can’t a Kansas City mayor do the same? Cmon kc let’s not become a Detroit or Cleveland. Look at st Louis... run by liberals and littered with bloodshed.

    1. Springfield, MO is run by Republicans and in red state country, it is one of the per capita most violent places in the state. Actually, more violence than STL on a percentage basis.

  4. Maybe she would be a better person to flip the switch for the plaza lights, almost anybody would be a better choice than the idiot who’s doing it this year

  6. Ewwwwwww! That picture took ten years off of my life, Jesus man, that’s disgusting

  7. Kay set the stage for the modern libtard leadership of KC. Hob nob at cocktail parties, handout tons of TIF cash to fatcats, and get rewarded with free shit and glowing coverage from the house organ newspaper, the KC Star.
Let's talk about what happened with the public schools in the wake of her tenure. Sorry if that is uncomfortable for all you revisionist left wing dip shits.
Remember the backlash against her brought us the Funk.
Now citizens are too poor, uneducated, and slothful to mount any serious rebuke to Sly. The spending is too far gone at the Federal, State, and of course local level. Nothing will change until Jubilee is declared.

  8. Another accolade for the "Queen Of TIF"!

Trying to resurrect some respect for the ex-Mayor who bankrupted Kansas City for 25 years with her useless "downtown projects"!

She must be getting ready to run for another office, after finally getting over the sting of her humiliating loss in the Northland.

Wonder what part of the Metro she'll claim to live in when she runs this time.

  9. She built this city on borrowing.

Will we still give her as much honor when we are bankrupt?

  10. Kay actually has a much better body than that.

    She is a tiger.

She's still going strong too, maybe she should run for mayor again?

  16. Just the usual insider dealing of the Chamber swells who are expert at using other people's money to buy opportunities to give each other awards.
And nothing says success like putting KCMO taxpayers in debt and having to pony up $15 million/year through 2030 for the P&L District.
When are the pro sports teams coming to the Sprint Center?
And don't you think maybe high taxes on car rentals to pay for it discourages both tourists and conventions?
    All superficial hype and BS.
Which Sly has continued materfully with both increased taxes and debt.
His awards will surely be coming soon.

  17. Class act. Well deserved

  18. An award to Barnes is just proof that the Chamber is all about hype with no substance. Just a place for marketing people to congregate but in reality its most important mission is to continue as a cheerleader for the looters.

  20. Kay Barnes? Isn't she the one who put all of the section 8 on Armour that MAC is now renovating and cleaning up in the Hyde Park area?

Funny those Hyde Park residents voted for her and then when they got screwed they ran to the republicans for help. HA HA HA HA HA

Damn was they that desperate to find someone to give the award to?

Would have been better off to just give it to Tony. Least TKC does provide a service to the residents of the area without raiding any tax dollars to do so.

  22. Thank you's to 5:19, 5:21, 6:47, and 7:42

The TRUTH resonates clear as a bell.

Remember that the KC Chamber of Commerce is an organized racket dominated by a handful of large corporations whose leadership steers the agenda.
The bulk of the membership consists of small players who are intimidated into paying dues out of fear they'll be ostracized.
Jim Heeter, who was mentioned the other day on Ruckus, is the former lackey leading the Chamber...need I say more?

  23. She's probably been the best mayor of KC that I can remember though. that's not saying much. Definitely better than Cleaver who made sure highway 71 is the most deadly and inconvenient stretch of road in the city

  24. What the hell did she do in 2018?
