Electric Scooters Fix Kansas City Housing???

For those who haven't seen it already, here's better reporting on a 12th & Oak tech scheme which hopes the disposable income of hipsters will somehow fix years of myopic policy and endemic urban core poverty . . . Checkit:

Revenue from Bird, Lime scooters could go to affordable housing in KCMO

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The tax money generated from the Bird and Lime scooters you see around the city could be going towards affordable housing. The City of Kansas City, Missouri's housing committee passed the resolution after nearly two hours of debate.

  1. Truly one of the most ridiculous ideas yet to come out of 12th and Oak, and the competition for stupid ideas from Sly and the gang is rigorous, to say the least.
The nickles and dimes generated by this short-lived fad are unlikely to fund much of anything.
Mid-west winters will pretty much shut down this "transit option" for at least four months a year.
If these panderers are really interested in "affordable housing", they need to have a line item in the budget, a well-crafted thoughtful program, serious oversight and accountability, and a long-range plan.
    Silliness on steroids.

  5. This is how it works:

    1. Bitch about scooters for months.

    2. Realize the constituency actually supports scooters more than the $120 million dollar boutique train

    3. Create slush fund with vague feelgood name like "Affordable housing"

Remember when they tried to run Uber out of town? Jesus christ this place is a shit hole

  10. A reorganization of the City and its redundant departments would create a windfall of cash. It is estimated that there would 20 to 30% savings with rightsizing the City.
