Approved Electric Scooter Ordinance Will Fund Kansas City Affordable Housing Despite Growing Injury Risk On Local Streets

The latest council session reveals a stunning level of groupthink among 12th & Oak and their continued ignorance of public safety issues.

Their latest bit of legislative advocacy:

Under an agreement with the city, scooter companies Bird and Lime currently pay the city $1 per scooter per day. That adds up about $300,000 a year — a drop in the bucket when it comes to addressing the city’s housing issues.

Now, there was some chatter about the funding mechanism and how money is shifted around City Hall but that shell game is old news.

What's more important . . .

IS KANSAS CITY RISKING PUBLIC SAFETY BY TAKING SCOOTER CASH INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT INCREASING TRAFFIC DANGER ON LOCAL STREETS?!?!?

Here's a a word from our bloggy community . . .

"KC thinks scooters are going to be financial windfall. Insurance companies and lawyers are probably going to force them off the roads or at least take a huge cut. Scooters on local streets with trucks and cars are just as dangerous as riding down big slides."

  8. Is there anything in kcmo that the city WONT tax? Good grief the liberal tax policy of this town is terrible.

Pretty soon the city council will push for a baby tax. Every childbirth will be taxed to fund some stupid pet project.

  11. Once scooters are a program funding source, it will be awfully hard to get rid of them for cause.
