It's not all about politics among our bloggy denizens, from time to time we try to focus on cowtown culture.
Accordingly . . .
NEW WORK FROM PEREGRINE HONIG PROMISES TO STIR UP EVEN MORE KANSAS CITY ARTSY DEBATE!!!
Over the years Honig has entered the fray of the culture war and her recent non-binary gender bathroom sign sparked international headlines.
The description of her latest exhibit is intentionally vague BUT BEHIND THE SCENES TKC TIPSTERS TELL US THAT THIS EXHIBIT THREATENS TO CREATE EVEN MORE DEBATE as the increasingly controversial artists blends the personal with political.
We'll have more but here's the local artsy news for now . . .
Peregrine Honig: FIND MY FEAR AND UNFOLD ME
Description . . .
"Peregrine Honig’s work is delicate and disturbing- deceptively simple executions of complicated subjects. Honig’s line documents early sexual awakenings, the visual manifestation of disease, and the social anxieties of realized and fictional characters. By illustrating revisionist mythology, stifled habits, residual adolescent vulnerability, and issues of beauty and popularity, Honig’s imagery documents trends in fear, private and public, commercial and independent.
Rendering the progress of innocence into awareness, her work chronicles the beauty of awkward moments. We are captivated by the resilience of our own virgin selves and beguiled by the lure of shameless sensuality. Honig’s work is an ongoing dictionary of intimate scenarios, inviting viewers to observe without the fear of trespassing or offending . . . "
You decide . . .
Will only agree that she has been more political over the years.
ReplyDeleteBut the headlines are mostly due to how KC is such a screwed up place to live and how we can't even agree on toilets.
Sobs for snobs.
DeleteKC's art scene is just an excuse to sell overpriced condos. You should already know that TKC. Sorry that you're slow on the uptake.
Gj wid dat strait dope, yo! Bingo-bulls-eye.
DeleteSpent more time making up overly wordy mumbo jumbo explanation of the pieces meaning than on the piece itself. Get a real job artsy a-hole.
ReplyDelete"work is delicate and disturbing" which is created by a disturbed person.
ReplyDeleteMore "look how interesting and special I am" Jew "art". Much Ado.
ReplyDeleteAll descriptions of art today try to outdo each other in saying nothing. When the cistene chapel was painted, all the art critics at the time said, “Nice painting, Michaelangelo “.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she would be interested in my penis paintings. Dip the tip in the paint and rage paint on the canvas.
ReplyDelete"deceptively simple executions of complicated subjects." I can't draw either.
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^^^^^^ LOL!
ReplyDeleteShe can't cut it anywhere else and that's why she's here.
ReplyDeleteVery unimpressive. Kansas City has an art community distinguished by the lack of skill and their faggotry.
ReplyDelete"Find MY fear and unfold ME"--because it's all about you, isn't it sweetheart ?
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't she show her art at Open Spaces? I hear the crowds were tremendous.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 12.37
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to jump on the bash Honig bandwagon. As long as she keeps politics out of it, she is very interesting. I will say that many KC Jazz Musicians are filthy liberals that hate most of their listeners.
ReplyDeleteRemember when successful artists were straight, white males ? Pepperidge Farm remembers !
ReplyDeleteAnyone know if she sells panties? Asking for myself.
ReplyDeletePeregrine's art: ME and what about ME MY this and that but it's ME MY MINE ME look at ME
ReplyDeleteSketch drawings ?!
ReplyDeleteHow do you get an odd duck like Peregrine?
ReplyDeleteGrow up as a child in the artsy gay enclaves of San Francisco where there are no boundaries.
Transplant yourself to KCMO.
Get on a reality TV show.
Open a panty shop.
Get naked for publicity and cultivate friendships with the gay art world and the media who cover it.
Produce lackluster work while hyping it with creative writing such as "delicate and disturbing", "sexual awakenings", revisionist mythology", "residual adolescent vulnerability", "innocence into awareness", "resilience of our own virgin selves", "beguiled by the lure", etc., ad nauseum.
Laugh to yourself that so many people can be manipulated so easily.
^^^^^^^^ you just proved that she has your attention.
ReplyDeleteShe's rude and her artwork can be done by fourth graders. Pass.
