TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY SUFFERS EPIC TAX BURDEN!!! STILL RISING!!!

An import but probably not earth shattering conclusion by smart-pants policy experts . . .

The Tax Burden in Kansas City Is High

Still, a good example . . .

"The estimated tax burden for a family earning $50,000 in Kansas City—the median income is $47,000—is $5,444. That’s 10.9 percent of income and includes income, property, sales, and auto taxes. This places us 8th in the country, ahead of places well-known as expensive such as Boston, New York, Portland, Seattle, Denver, and Los Angeles."

What's worse is that the upcoming election is packed with politicos who want to raise local taxes one way or another and there aren't any viable opposition candidates.

Developing . . .

Comments

  1. The majority of tax increases are decided by less than 25% of eligible voters. Politicos know to put these items on the ballot when low turnout is expected. Tax increases will continue until people focus more on whats going on in their local area instead of the national level. Not only are taxes out of control, we have nobody to spend the money as intended by the voters. Just say NO.

  2. and it's only going to get worse. The boutique train is a failure because expansion will never come of federal funding. There's stupid art shows at swope park for no good reason when they could have potentially been viable at liberty memorial. We have the most inconvenient stretch of road south 71, which should have been I-49 and could have received federal funding AND been much safer and convenient. But it was a feel good story, which unfortunately ended up killing minorites on a weekly basis. Jesus, this town is fucked tax wise

Plus, take into our account how expensive KC water is.

  3. Hey, getting second jobs selling balloons, candles, and T-shirts could help pay those high taxes. Looks as though a #8 ranking goes right along with that #5 in Killa City.

  4. I'd move if I were you guys.

But it's so much easier to wheeze and complain.

  5. i could argue both sides of the tax increases.

what's disappointing is that leadership hasn't created a consensus sense of community.

maybe it's always been that way.

the other thing is that when a recession finally does hit, the taxes and high airline ticket prices will become painful.

  6. KCMO is now world class in more than one category.

  7. I live in Frog Balls, and my 90 year-old mother pays all the taxes and stuff.

Can we talk about black people again? Please.

  8. @3:35 Why should we have to move? Why cant we have responsible tax policy in the city that creates a win-win for both residents and the city? Why cant taxes be used for their intended purpose? Are you saying that we should just continue to give the city a blank check every time they cant balance the budget? There should be no reason our city should be at the top of the list of most taxed cities. Stop making excuses for poor government.

  9. Just think, sLIE got really pissed off at the state when they shut his ass down for asking that the sales tax be increased to something like 18%, that state froze taxes at 14% and he cried like a baby. He still has a chance to get to 14% if the idiot people in killa shitty keep saying yes to everything.

  10. these sales taxes are regressive and unfair to the people of kansas city. and they don't get good schools or good other services.

kansas has high taxes overall, too, but services and schools are good.

  11. And the idiots in kansas city will say yes again and again and again and sly will continue to mismanage everyone's money because he's just not smart maybe that's why he's mayor of a failing city.

  12. KC taxpayers keep approving more and more taxes to replace funds that are given away in TIFs to developers and lawyers. Doesn't make sense, does it?

  13. Democrats think Money grows on trees, as long as there’s dumb people, they’ll never go away

  14. Republicans think if you give the rich a tax break, they will raise wages.

Republicans think the way to solve the labor shortage is to end immigration.

Republicans think that Donald Trump is a successful business man.

    You can't fix stupid.

  15. The only good Jackson County does the city was on TV Sunday night. Need never set foot there.

  16. When you lower tax rates everyone that pays federal income taxes gets relief. 6:47 is probably one of the 47% that pays none. Gives him plenty of time to spew his socialist manifesto.
