TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! PLAYING FAVORITES WITH DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY PARKING?!? HERE'S HOW POLITICALLY CONNECTED DRIVERS AVOID TICKETS!!!

Massive taxpayer subsidy and rigged transit votes have drawn more people into the downtown loop but not everybody is paying their fair share when it comes to parking.

While developer ponzi schemes don't really impact the quiet lives of desperation enjoyed by most downtown KCMO workers, the rising price of parking is now a sticking point among motorists.

Moreover . . .

OUR TKC BLOG COMMUNITY NOTICES MORE AND MORE DOWNTOWN ILLICITLY PARKED CARS WITHOUT CONSEQUENCE!!!

Stickers usually identify the premium lots and then there's just randos who seem to pull up wherever they please . . . The parking rules in Downtown KCMO can be Byzantine but insiders know the score.

Here's the best way motorists can avoid paying their fair share:

- The basement of City Hall provides free parking to the top power players in Kansas City. Council members have been known to leave there spots open so they can grant access to their most important patrons. The boldest cowtown suits often get a ride in the express elevator with Mayor Sly.

- Jackson County owns one of the very best and most convenient lots in KCMO - And whilst taxpayers are on the hook for upcoming improvements - Local biz leaders and top ranking donors regularly avoid paying high priced parking to downtown events like the rest of the plebs via phone call favors to the management team.

- Meanwhile, low ranking civic plebs can find a way to earn a valuable freebie by cutting deals with folks paid to monitor parking. They say that Kansas City is the biggest small town in the world and it's not that hard to find a friend of a friend who is willing to trade favors.

Sadly, all of these methods require either money or a lot of legwork . . . And so the vast majority of Downtown workers are forced to hoof it further distances and risk battling angry hobos amid a longer slog to work that's only going to get harder with change of seasons.

Developing . . .

  1. Not surprised that the courthouse is so brazen about it. It's a few hundred thousand that will be invested into that lot today. I guess the extra property tax bite isn't so bad as long as all of the lawyers can get to the sprint center easily.

Don't know if you realize this TKC, but you're actually making a good argument for more public transportation. We need to think about better electric buses and, yes, more streetcar if we want to be competitive.

KC is corrupt in every aspect, why should parking be any different.

  2. Hey, you either go the connections or you don't. No use complaining about it or trying to ruin it for everybody else.

  3. Can you imagine if we had actually built new stadiums downtown, as some of the "beautiful people" wanted a few years ago? We are already short of parking. Now imagine stadiums in the middle of this mess, given the public transportation available now and in the future.

  4. This is really irresponsible TKC. If you want to make report the story then you should ask the council members and talk about the individual lots. The reference to Mayor Sly is also a disgrace, he cannot help who he rides in the elevator with and you know it.

I've tried to keep away from this blog but it keeps getting mentioned to me. I tell your readers that there may be some good information on here but the overall point of the blog is to trash people trying to do good and make this city best. Every day you come up with some way that we should doubt our elected leaders and that's really a shame because they have spent their time helping to improve the lives of residents. What does the average negative commenter do to help anyone but themselves?

SLY and our elected officials waste and steal said taxes. What has this bunch of crooks done to improve the lives of residents? Shameless lying fuck !

Go4KC stated; "Every day you come up with some way that we should doubt our elected leaders and that's really a shame because they have spent their time helping to improve the lives of residents."

Surprised Go4KC did not mention all of the failures that make our lives worse. Failed infrastructure, high crime rate, millions of wasted taxpayer dollars funneled to developers, promises made but not delivered, collecting the east side tax and no improvements from it, pothole pansy program, and many more.

If the elected leaders want to make our lives better just perform the basic services at a world class level in vibrant KCMO.

  9. Again, what do I see here. A lot of negativity for the people who are doing their best for Kansas City and want to make a public service.

The parking situation in downtown is getting more complicated but the way to solve it isn't to throw around accusations of corruption but to work for a solution and more transit options like the streetcar is part of that. With the streetcar extension people can park further away from Downtown and the ride to work. Streets that are more open to bicycles and scooters will help ease the flow of traffic and cars.

But I don't see people who want a solution on this blog or what to help solve problems. What I see is commenters who shoot down good ideas and make fun of those of us who have dedicated or work to making this city best like Mayor James and Councilman Justus. The list goes on and on.

What we need is for all of KC to support the streetcar, more bike and scooter lanes and other good transit options. Instead what we get from TKC is a lot of talk about the problems with no solutions.

    1. For what I hope is the last time, shill: solutions to obvious, unresolved problems are the job of good civic government, not the citizens.

If this clown of a mayor and the rest of the circus downtown paid attention to serious and ongoing issues, they might be able to provide some soutions.

But they are instead devoted to servicing developers and incompetently fudging a series of boutique projects.

      Shame. Look that word up.

  12. What you also forgot to say is they get free tickets to all events in kcmo and Jackson co, aka chiefs and royals, parking is included. Talk about greed........

  13. Go4KC again forgets that we pay taxes for our elected officials to solve problems. Like basic infrastructure.
They shouldn't play with OUR money until they can do the simple things.

  14. And gopherkc has done what exactly for kc?

    Nothing.

You really shouldn’t piss off your tax base gopher boy, we pay for all this with our blood sweat and tears that you thieves take from us so......

Kcmo ethics hotline for those who are brave enough to stand up to this crap. The City has an Ethics Hotline, which provides employees and residents a way to anonymously report suspected abuse and wrongdoing by elected officials, members of appointed boards and commissions, City employees, contract employees, vendors, bidders and anyone doing business with the City.

The City encourages employees and residents to call the Ethics Hotline at 1-800-340-3132 to file a complaint whenever wrongdoing is suspected.

  16. Go4KC, you do know that your feeble attempts in saying what you do only makes the situation worse. A lot of taxpayers have many reasons to display negativity not only about you but the whole tribe at 12th and Oak. You come on here trying to spread the idea that all is rosey and beautiful in Kansas City when those who really pay to support it know what the true reality of it all is.

How about you Go4KC, coming on here and speaking the real truth for one and see how much negativity you get in return then. If you were to tell the real truth day in and day out you would find that you would develop a huge fan base for speaking the facts as we really already know they are instead of that "Rah Rah Crap" you always want to spread which is all lies and we know it.

First lies you need to clear up is the figures for those riding the toy Choo Choo and the real numbers of how many don't come to Kansas City in a year.

Don't try to trash those who pay your salary, but instead start telling them the real truth about how the city is taking them on a one way ride to bankruptcy and loss of public services.

  17. GopherBaby, we offer plenty of solutions…

    First, fix the damn streets!
Then, ban the bicycles, scooters, Big Wheels and all other children's toys that pay no taxes off those streets!

    Need more ideas?

  18. Well stated by @7:57, 8:07, 8:13, 8:15, 8:21, and 8:28.

Somehow these statements/ideas probably do not fit into the narrative by 12th and Oak.

Go4KC is once again spewing his bilge in hopes of getting an audience.

  19. "What we need is for all of KC to support the streetcar, more bike and scooter lanes and other good transit options. Instead what we get from TKC is a lot of talk about the problems with no solutions."

This is a comment too far, Gopher. 70% of voters opposed the streetcar when we had the opportunity to vote on it. It was rammed down our throats, and now it's our duty to support it? As for bike and scooter lanes, fine. But don't take so much space away from cars, which, like it or not, is what most people use to get around. And "other transit options?" We have a perfectly good bus system that we could invest in rather than buying nostalgia via a fixed rail fair weather only toy choo choo.

Are you taking lessons from the Trump Academy of alternative facts?

  20. The sad thing is that Sly and these council people have been elected to govern the city.
That is, to address, prioritize, plan, implement, and provide oversight to the delivery of actual city services that are meaningful to the everyday lives of residents and businesses.
Instead, they're constantly being jerked around from one screwball idea to the next by one special interest, consultant, salesman, grifter, developer, campaign contributor, or others, who are interested in their own little gig and couldn't care less about the city or its residents. Just make sure the check clears.
And they sure don't care about the longer-term financial health of KCMO.
I've got mine, Jack, and have a nice day.
And who's next in line with their pitch?
Surely Go4KC can't be an actual sentient person.
