TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! JACKSON COUNTY LAWSUIT TARGETS CAMPAIGN CASH USED BY DISGRACED EXEC MIKE SANDERS!!!

It's a scary time in Kansas City politics and as we await the midterm vote, there's an important debate on the topic of local ethics and accountability.

To wit . . .

HERE'S THE MOVE TO CUT OFF CONVICTED FELON MIKE SANDERS FROM JACKSON COUNTY POLITICAL MONEY WHILST HE'S IN THE CLINK!!!

It's undoubtedly a bold effort to address a lingering issue that has been otherwise ignored during the midterm mania. And so, take a look the narrative and reasoning for the legal argument with a highlight that should send shivers down the spines of local voters . . .

PETITION

On Monday, Nov. 5th Mike Sanders will begin serving his federal sentence for his illegal acts regarding his campaign committees. The federal prosecutor said Sanders used these committees for “underhanded political tricks.” At sentencing, the federal judge ordered even more time then the prosecution asked for due to his “protracted criminal behavior” noting that the federal charge was “not just a one-time lapse in judgment.”

This lawsuit filed in Jackson County Circuit Court demonstrates another one of Mike Sanders’ “underhanded political tricks” and “protracted criminal behavior” with these campaign committees where he used these funds to interfere with a business contract. The law in Missouri is clear: tortious interference with business relationships occurs where someone intentionally acts to prevent someone from successfully maintaining business relationships with others. Michael Sanders acted with other defendants to break the law and they did it with promises, influence peddling, and payments from the “Sanders For Jackson County” committee and others. The “Sanders for Jackson County” committee is still active today and has $435,000 in the account.

It is unfathomable that Mike Sanders will be sitting in federal custody but still have access to almost half a million dollars in campaign money to carry on his underhanded political tricks from a prison cell. A request for a temporary restraining order has been filed to prevent him or his treasurer from accessing those funds until this case is litigated and a verdict is rendered.

Sanders cut a plea deal early in his federal criminal case with the federal prosecutor to avoid other criminal charges but this lawsuit is the only ethical thing to do to hold him accountable for some of his and the committee's other illegal activities.

  1. Outstanding!

It's about time we got Mike Sanders out of the game. He broke the rules big time and needs to find a new career path. Hope he learns some trade skills in jail.

    1. Ya know, this is something that Jackson County Democrats should've signed on to in order to clean up their image. But I'm guessing they were hoping they could get a cut. Absolutely the right move and should have been done long ago.

    2. Absolutely a solid complaint. Will win easily, when confronted with the prospect of a convict making political contributions from jail, any court would take action quickly to prevent that - Surprised MOBar hasn't already stepped in.

  6. This is good news but I think you are missing one important question TKC:

    What about Calvin?

He's really the one who continues to sell out the county and now he's stepping out of the spotlight quietly.

I'll tell you this, Mike told us who he was. He didn't ever to much as a prosecutor and was one of the worst executives we've ever had. That says a lot following Catherine Shields. The guy was always headed toward jail. Just a matter of time really.

  9. Mike gave way to Frank. Now it's time for him to get a full audit.

  10. When we first notified the state, months ago, about this issue there was a lot more money in the accounts. Sanders or someone else with access to it has been draining the balance down.

State officials were reminded that Sanders was under indictment at the time, and had already demonstrated a proclivity to commit financial fraud.

There should be a complete forensic accounting investigation to uncover where all the money went. The state will have to do it, because Jackson County won't touch it.
