  1. BFD on the North Oak "Groundbreaking", the road has been torn up since the first week of August. What is being described is what is already there, so this "project" involves no improvements. Guess it was just too hot earlier for "our betters" to haul their butts up North.

Since they're doing nothing new, what was actually needed was at a minimum some new road surfacing, but a far better plan would involve widening the roadway to allow for a "center turn lane" running the length of the trafficway.

Forget about a Bicycle lane, the "Farmland Hill" just north of the NKC limits involves a rise of 200+ feet in a run of just over a mile, and not even the most devout "Bike Nazi" in Kansas City can cope with that!

  2. If downtown office pace is such a hot issue, why are commercial buildings being converted to apartments?
Or was that what was hot last week?
Too bad Sly isn't speaking about crime and violence.

  3. @ 6:39, Farmland hill is nothing - an easy climb for any moderately fit cyclist. There are tougher hills in the area. I've ridden that route 10,000 times over the years, in all manner of weather conditions, and it's a nice ride. There's enough of a shoulder to not have to worry too much about distracted drivers, but a wider road with a dedicated bike lane would be nice, as we have to dodge the storm water grates now. Not saying I want to pay for that with my taxes, but as long as they can do that work and it doesn't cost that much more or inconvenience drivers and the flow of traffic during rush hour, I would enjoy it. I can't legally drive due to a medical issue, so I am stuck with mass transit schedules or riding my bike. I obey traffic laws, do everything I can to stay out of the way of drivers, I wear bright clothing and have front and rear lights. I am less of an inconvenience to you than a geezer or distracted teen.

  4. @ 9:16 p.m. aka Super Duper Biker Dude - A dedicated bike lane on N. Oak Trafficway? Swell idea. Would that keep the Bike Nazis OFF Cherry and Holmes (the narrow and dangerous streets that parallel N. Oak to the East)?
