The Kansas City Classic Ruckus

Great discussion tonight about all things concerning local political red meat . . . From crime to cash and even a few tidibts that started out as blog posts here on TKC . . . Here's a great description of the gold standard in political discourse tonight:

"Mike Shanin talks to Jackson County Legislator Greg Grounds about the seven proposed changes to the Jackson County charter. Mary O'Halloran, Patrick Tuohey, Terry Riley and Woody Cozad discuss the crowded race to become the next mayor of Kansas City including the return of Jolie Justus, the spike in voter registration in Johnson County and Jackson County and dark money in political campaigns."

Take a look:

You decide . . .

  2. So a group of people who most KCMO residents don't recognize and who have no responsibilities or ability to actually do much of anything share their opinions about what other people should be doing.
    Hard hitting!
They didn't even talk about momentum!

  3. Some people will do anything to make themselves feel knowledgeable and important.

They should be talking about getting the city to fix the failing infrastructure.

  4. ^^some people will comment and complain about everything. You should be doing other things rather than posting on a blog.

  5. This city needs more people like Tuohey being vocal as well as Cozad. This city has long since been more interested in financing big business and people of power with tax payer funds, building new airports that most don't want, building streetcars and hotels than dealing with infrastructure, a record setting murder rate, poor education, and delivery of basic services.

It's true that we have one of the highest crime rates in the country. It's true that we have more dept per capita than our peer cities. It's true that we tax high compared to other comparable cities. It's true that basic services and safety suffer in this town.

Yet with all that said, you see S'lie on TV thumping his chest about all the economic development that has surfaced since he's been in office. No one wants to talk about the real issues. Good for S'lie because this time next year he'll likely be off to Washington for his next political venture while we're here left to clean up the mess. Much like the financial mess Queen Kay left us with Cordish and such.

If Jolie gets elected it'll be more of the same. And the real issues will get worse, the rich will get richer, the poor will get poorer, and we'll keep barreling towards bankruptcy.

  7. 7:45 go suck off the exhaust pipe of a car. That would be one step in the right direction of improving Kansas City.

  8. WELCOME TO STRUCK-US

By simply listening to Greg Grounds' positions you can determine that he's an ally for the Jackson County taxpayer. Common sense approach to problems and fighting against corruption.

You can immediately determine that this will be an above-average program, because it features both Tuohey and Cozad, two of the smartest individuals to ever grace the show.

    NO JUSTUS IN KCMO
On the topic of Jolie Justus reentering the Mayor's race we'll summarize with 3 words: acute flaccid myelitis

If you're going to watch only 1 minute of STRUCK-US, please watch from the 10:00 to 11:00 minute mark. Tuohey lays out a Mayoral reform campaign platform which unfortunately will not be adopted by any of the current announced candidates.

  9. Tuohey and Cozad had absolutely no competition on this episode. Terry Riley and Mary O'Halloran were in extraordinarily inarticulate form. Neither seemed to be able to put together a coherent sentence for most of the show.

If you are going to be a commentator, have some commentary prepared. Have a point and make it. Don't take ridiculously long pauses that make it clear you don't know what you want to say.

This is a great example of why many Dems don't win. You can't bumble around without making a clear statement and expect to persuade anyone.
