KSHB: Schlitterbahn employees found not guilty of lying to investigators

Deets:

A jury found two former Schlitterbahn Waterpark employees not guilty of lying to investigators in the 2016 death of a 10-year-old boy on the Verruckt water slide.

The case against David Hughes and John Zalsman was the first one involving current and former Schlitterbahn employees after the investigation into Caleb Schwab's death.

A Schlitterbahn spokeswoman released this statement after the verdict: "We have maintained our belief in the integrity of our staff and respect the process and decision by the jury."

  2. From the write-up in the newspaper, admittedly not often an accurate source, it did not sound like the prosecution had a very good case.

  4. from the article:

"Toth said during his closing arguments that Kansas Bureau of Investigation detectives interviewed Hughes in his home in Basehor, which is in Leavenworth County. If Hughes was going to charged with giving false information to investigators, it should have been in Leavenworth County, Toth argued"

Moral of the story: NEVER EVER TALK TO THE POLICE WITHOUT YOUR LAWYER. IT WILL NEVER HELP, CAN ONLY HURT YOU. DON'T DO IT EVER. NEVER EVER.

    Ok, does everyone get it?

  5. I have said all along charging these guys was a huge mistake. I am sure they were only following orders and doing as they were told without the benefit of decent legal counsel. The maintenance man might be who does the work but how much of the work they can do is always controlled in a business as this by someone higher up the food chain.

But even being found innocent of the charges I'm betting this will haunt them jobwise for some time to come.

Glad to see a jury used some common sense and made the right ruling.
