Rock Island Corridor Redux: They Promised Transit But Now It's Only A Dirt Path

Here's an important example of local vaporware and a legacy of KCMO corruption . . . Disgraced Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders promised commuter rail for Rock Island Corridor before he had to resign like a hobo in the night and then wound up going to jail.

Now . . .

ROCK ISLAND CORRIDOR DIRT ROAD COMING SOON!!! IT'LL BE YET ANOTHER GREAT, SECLUDED LOCATION TO DUMP TRASH OR DEAD BODIES!!!

Here's the reporting that mostly overlooks the broken promises:

Jackson County to open first phase of Rock Island Rail Corridor trail within next 30 days

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jackson County is one step closer to converting an old railroad into a walking and biking trail. The first phase of the Rock Island Rail Corridor will open within the next 30 days. The second phase should open by the end of 2019.

  1. Walkers had better not stop to take pictures and admire the "beautiful, 100 year old structure", or they'll get run over by Kansas City's insane, arrogant Bike Nazis!

    1. Dear Mr Cyclist Anti-Fascist at 11:09am: what is with your hostility toward people who get around town on a bike? Why do you project the worst motives onto them? In other words, what is your deal, guy? You're just a guy with a deal.

  2. Secluded trails through Jackson County, what could possibly go wrong with this plan.

  3. Trails are being used now by people protesting silently against obesity and high cholesterol by biking, hiking and jogging and running, etc.
These anti-pharmacy people are also reportedly supporting local bike shops and lining the pockets of health instructors everywhere.
From Strava to Garmin Connect to Apple... devices and websites are helping fuel the insanity and while we can expect the Pro-McDonald- I-need-another- cand-Bar crowd to feel left out... simple healthy people are making others feel bad for the unhealthy choices they make that lead to early heart attack deaths and this is wrong- if not darn right discrimination! Stop the insanity and vote Gluttony during the next election by choosing wider and not skinnier politicians!

  6. Bicyclists are mostly faggots that like wearing spandex body suits and suck each others dicks off. Radish would know.

  8. @ 1:42 I still carry the scars from two incidents on the Trolley Trail.

The external ones are from being crashed into by one of two bikers riding side-by-side at a rapid pace on the Trail, and the ones in my head are from being a witness to the Noble Fellow who crashed into the mother with her baby in a stroller, then rode away!
I was one of those trying to help her and control both her and her baby's bleeding until the ambulance arrived.

I also live in a neighborhood where a pack of you honorable bicyclists routinely ride through narrow suburban streets three and four abreast, deliberately slowing down a string of cars behind them.

Hardly a day goes by when I don't see some jackass on two wheels weaving around cars at a stoplight, then careening away on a sidewalk.

When you bicyclists begin to show a modicum of respect toward either pedestrians or drivers, I'll consider revising my opinion.

  9. Had some close calls on the Trolley Trail with bike riders. Some were very polite and actually called out "on your left" before almost running into you. They have become much more aggressive, especially in large groups. Between the zoned-out runners, the crazy drivers, and the occasional walker, it's only a matter of time before something goes terribly wrong. Biker beware.

  10. People who drive cars are much safer. No accidents or road rage anywhere. And car drivers pay attention and never text and drive while eating healthy French fries and slurping big gulps as they apply make up all the while reading the paper. On clear days on staight always car drivers never wreck. It’s all good.
