Kansas City Opens Spaces FAIL Postscript

Money line from our alternative publishing pals:

"Poor marketing and high ticket prices (considering past draws of these artists) likely kept many potential attendees away."

Take a peek:

Open Spaces 'Weekend,' with Janelle MonĂ¡e, the Roots and the Marcus Lewis Big Band, at Starlight Theatre

All photos by April Fleming. There are still a few weeks until Open Spaces, Kansas City's sprawling public arts festival, reaches its official conclusion, but some of the marquee events were held at Swope Park this weekend, or "The Weekend," as Open Spaces dubbed it.

  1. Janelle Monae is a diseased whore and not worth seeing, even with a free ticket. That is not why people aren’t going to Open Spaces. Nobody want to go to Swope Park because there are too many negroes there.

  2. I read the kc star article about this. The star claimed starlight was basically at full capacity for her. Then they went on to talk about her vagina pants and the whole promotion of “queer pop” and feminist lgbt issues. No fuckin thank you.

  3. The city should not be in the entertainment business.

  4. Looks like a great time for a handful of blacks with free or discounted tickets. The Pitch would have you believe 3,500 showed up for Janelle Monae. The pictures I saw of the event show much fewer. No wonder The Pitch is dying. No great loss there. Their Open Spaces love fest write up was probably co-authored by Go4KC.
