TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! KANSAS CITY DEAD-TREE MEDIA NOW HIRING!!!

Never say this blog didn't try to help the fortunes of the Kansas City newspaper scene whilst the vast majority of humanity is scrolling their lives away in front of their phones . . .

Accordingly . . .

FOR LOCALS WHO WANT THEIR NAME IN THE PAPERS - CHECK THE QUICK LIST OF KANSAS CITY NEWSIE JOBS!!!

For better or worse, for now, this is some local labor that can't be outsourced to the 3rd world . . .

The Pitch in Kansas City is looking to add a full-time staff writer to its team. This is a news position that requires a unique combination of skills. We’re now a monthly magazine that publishes daily content online, but we were born as an alternative weekly, and our editorial approach is still very much rooted in our progressive, muckraking heritage. The ideal candidate is an aggressive reporter — comfortable cultivating government and business sources and making public records requests — as well as a lively writer with an intuition for a good story. Output-wise, it’s a mix of shorter online pieces (some reporting, some aggregation) and longform narratives for print. This is not a “cover the city council” type of journalism job (though you occasionally will) nor are we chasing breaking news (though it’s nice to beat the daily every once in a while). It is a position with a tremendous amount of creative freedom and . But you gotta be able to deliver the goods.

Reader retort:

"I wonder if the "unique combination of skills" they seek includes the ability to find another job when the mag goes broke in a year or so"

Next Up . . .

The Northeast News is looking for a new managing editor . . . They need someone who has experience with podcasts or who is willing to learn. Alternatively, we're working on becoming more of a community journalism incubator, so if an older, well known journalist who has taken a buyout from the Star or other news outlet was interested in going back to their roots to lend name recognition and share their knowledge and experiences in the industry with the next generation of journalists, that could also be a new direction for newspapers overall.

Actually, this is probably one of the better gigs out there . . . Definitely worth a look.

Last one . . .

The Kansas City Star Desperately Seeking DIGITAL Account Executive Help: Kansas City Star Media Company is the place to work if you are looking for a thrilling, leading-edge work environment where you can grow and develop your professional skills. We are looking for a talented individual to join our targeted audience, event sponsorship and digital team. Our impact is growing every day. Our award-winning journalism, digital reach, and commitment to innovative growth have never been stronger and we want you to be part of that!

Job Responsibilities

We are currently looking for an innovative and experienced Targeted Audience & Digital Account Executive with proven success managing, selling, and executing strategic objectives to exceed local print and digital revenue goals . . . If you have a proven track record of successful media sales, as well as a strong background in helping customers grow their business through digital marketing, then we have an outstanding opportunity for you.

We hear they're on the Internet too with a following nearly as big as one of the lesser Instagram models.

Despite the ongoing debate about technology, this PRINT MEDIA hiring spree might be the biggest indication that the Prez Trump economy is stronger than most people realize as even journalists are enjoying the good times.

Hopefully, more for the morning update . . . STAY TUNED!!!

    1. Love that 4% growth rate. At this point, maybe the libs will stop whining about healthcare and maybe help more people get out there and find better jobs so that they can buy their own.

  2. On the bright side, women who get one of these jobs won't have to show as much cleavage as they do for TV news.

  3. Most of these "jobs" are sales positions where these poor people are going to have to try to get companies to buy advertising space in these dying rags.
It's a bit like having a Honeybaked Ham franchise in Tel Aviv.
Have to hope these aren't mostly commission "opportunities".
It would be great for a community to have an actual newspaper that at least tried to factually report stories of local interest and concern. But the Star is anything but that.
Maybe if they at least tried they'd have a bit more success, but spending money on crap just because it's "local" doesn't do anyone any good.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^ +100 on this one.

But let's not dismiss that the economy is better now than it ever was under Obama for a wider group of people. Those are the FACTS. Denying reality only hurts yourself.

  7. Added bonus for men at the Star... Take in the highest sales for the first month and they'll let you sniff Mary's seat cushion for 5 minutes alone.

  8. The data regarding the economy is dated. New reports come out this week, & even those reports won't reflect any impact from the tariff's taking effect today. It won't be until January that we will know how the economy is doing for the top two-thirds of the population.

One-third of the population earns less than $12 an hour. Workers for Wal-Mart & Amazon receive government assistance because the wages are so low. Most major corporations have over-leveraged their debt. Business debt as a percentage of GDP is at its highest level in history.

The economy is consumer driven, & when the consequences of the trade war put basic necessities out of the reach of the poor & middle class these corporations will experience reduced cash flow which will make this level of corporate debt unsustainable.

The spring will see a massive recession & the trade war may become a shooting war.

  9. 2:04 YOU have been doing your research. AND CONSUMERS ARE TRILLIONS IN DEBT and when they stop spending. There will be Layoffs THE Housing bubble will burst. Many will be upside-down in there homes And then there is inflation. You will be paying Twenty dollars for a Burger at the NEW HARD ROCK CAFE IN BASHER KANSAS.
