TKC EXCLUSIVE QUESTION: SHOULD DISGRACED FORMER JACKSON COUNTY EXEC MIKE SANDERS ENDURE HARD TIME OR WALK AWAY WITH WRIST SLAP?!?!

The former prosecutor, politico and now convicted felon is pleading his case in the newspaper . . . However, TKC IS THE ONLY PLACE FOR REAL COMMENTS on the topic that (probably) won't get locals fired or under a similar investigation. Actually curious as to what our reader community thinks on the topic of crime and punishment for a beloved local political leader.

Former top Dem Mike Sanders wants probation, not prison time | The Kansas City Star

Facing up to two years in prison, former Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders is asking instead for probation or house arrest as punishment for his felonious misuse of tens of thousands of dollars in campaign funds.

    1. You know what, given the opportunity I think that he would probably win an election against Frank White if it were held today or three years from now. He was much more of a consensus builder and very skilled as a politician.

Caleb has already stole more from the County till than Mike ever did.

If he rats out enough of his crony buddies he will walk away with an ankle bracelet. He is unlikely to have implicated his law buddies who will give him future jobs as a para-legal.
Check the Star archives how Rick Moore walked after ratting out his friends. Mike Fisher went away. Others were disgraced. Teresa Loar escaped but pled guilty to a State charge of campaign finance violations after the 1991 Brice Harris dirty mayoral campaign.
If Star geniuses would look in their morgue files they might become aware of ongoing history of local corruption.
If you do not learn from the past you are doomed to repeat it.

  7. The Star never even reported on most of what Mike did. Mike Hendricks was in love with Sanders.

Do not talk Mike, we can get the Missouri Supreme Court to give your law license back if you are a good boy. Or, not.

  12. There is no way that he pleaded guilty to everything they had on him. This article is just another love letter from The Star.

  13. Wasn't he close to McCaskill?

  14. All this over just around $13,000 in campaign money spent on wine? Real question, how is this any different than what every other politician did or does? I am beginning to think he should completely walk.

  15. If that is all it was then he would have never pleaded guilty. They had him on a lot more. It is just cheaper to get the guilty plea and not have to go to trial. I wonder how man "veterans" Skippy sent to prison when he was a prosecutor. I bet everyone of them had lawyers asking him to go easy on them because they once wore a uniform. And I bet Skippy asked for the max to make himself look good in commercials.

  17. He did a lot of good for Kansas City and he helped a lot of people. Nobody is all good or all bad. I think the charges against him are substantial but it's likely that he'll lose his law license and he'll have a hard time making a living after that, there is little risk of him offending again because he will be unable to hold political office. The jails are crowded enough. Probation, a fine and the professional consequences should be enough.

  18. Mike should get probation. He has already been shamed, and won't be practicing law.

Considering that Judge Torrence gave probation to a child molestor, it would be a joke for Mike to do time.

  19. Just so we're all in agreement: Yes, he is a criminal, but he was far more effective at his job and the city was better off with him holding office than our current situation?

  20. 10:43 or considering they let a double murderer out with no bond, she murdered her parents folks and they sent her home, god this city and county suck

  21. Sanders created they trouble at the county today by putting White in office. Sanders and Waits put White in office because they thought they could control him.

Sanders broke a public trust with a string of criminal activity.

    Sanders should go to prison.

  22. If there is any semblance of justice, he will get probation. Murderers get less time.

  23. Looks like Mike, Georgia and their lawyer are commenting fast and furious.

  24. If this type of conduct puts someone in prison, then we will need a lot more prisons. There isn't a politician or lobbyist alive that hasn't done the same or way worse. I've not been a Sanders apologist in the past, but time for this seems like a waste of my tax dollars. Save the space for someone who actually poses a danger to the public.

  25. Sanders never used his position for a fancy car or to have groups pay for private trips like Caleb Clifford.

The no work jobs and contracts are hard to prove before a jury, so my guess is that they got him to plead to the wire fraud charge to avoid having to go to court on more risky stuff.

  32. Get convicted of second degree murder, get probation. Get convicted of campaign finance law violation, get hard time. Like Yakov almost said: What a great county!

    THANK YOU!
Can't believe all the enablers of corruption who want Sanders to skate.
Send him away to prison for the maximum possible, he's a liar and crook former elected official and should be made an example to others.
