Whilst recent customer push back targets power company prices, there's an underlying issue about the cause of the KCP&L rates which has yet to be reported.
Until now . . .
TKC EXCLUSIVE PULL QUOTE GOODNESS!!! KANSAS CITY JOURNALIST CLAIMS GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE SPIKES KCP&L PRICES!!!
Here's the explanation . . .
"The country is coming to grips with the fact that fixing this kind of problem, like global climate change, is enormously expensive . . . Climate change is an important part of the equation because it's going to be hotter, it's going to be drier and KCP&L is a monopoly institution. People will increasingly ask why their rates are increasing . . . The idea that utilities are going to want more money for what they do in the era of climate change is upon us, that's going to make it a major political issue going forward." the faltering top ranking newsie said.
Now . . .
THIS EXCLUSIVE PULL QUOTE IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT SHIFTS THE BLAME GAME AGAINST POWER COMPANY GREED AND BACK ONTO THE PUBLIC!!!
Our blog community believes this deserves attention because of the rhetorical ploy at work. Shifting the debate to environmental issues gets the power company off the hook and actually works to restrict, tax and overcharge customers.
What's worse is the mainstream media organizations have adopted the progressive language of corporations in order to help weaken accountability to the public amid this latest Kansas City consumer outcry.

Forbes: It's Taken Time, But Electric Utilities Are Warming Up To Climate Change
KSHB: Following complaints of high bills, KCP&L offers assistance
LA Times: More air conditioning will place added strain on the electrical grid by increasing peak demand. To avoid blackouts, utilities will have to make costly upgrades, such as additional generating capacity, substations and energy storage facilities, to meet demand during hot months.
KMBC: Utility widely criticized for rate increases this summer
Developing . . .
Gotta blame somebody for it. Certainly can't ask about all of the Mercedes and BMW cars in the KCP&L parking lot.
ReplyDeleteI blame the schools. They only teach this climate change garbage now and it's explained as gospel truth. There is no debate on the topic, if you don't accept the premise then you are flunked and identified as a problem. Really scary what's going on here.
Delete^^^^^^^^ Exactly right. This is the new normal and something that will be drilled into the heads of young people. Think about home or private schools.
Delete1012, that's because it is an accepted fact. It's not a debate, it's not a "do I like this" type thing. The things you can debate, what is your favorite type of sweater, what is your favorite topping on a hot dog, what was the greatest champion of the 90s, who is the greatest pitcher of all time. Those are things that are based on opinions. But things that are based on science are facts and it doesn't matter to science if you like them or not it's still true. You may disagree, but you're wrong. There are things that are not debatable. Science, math, physics, these are things that are factually based. They're not preferences, and if you don't know the difference between a preference the fact then there's no point in even entertaining this discussion because you simply don't get it.
DeleteOf course it's global climate change. What else would it be? but this is bigger than KC politics TKC. It's the whole world at stake.
ReplyDeleteKansas was an inland sea a 200,000 years ago, so change is inevitable.
ReplyDelete1038, the temp changes here happened in 100 years. You're talking about something that happened over a hundred thousand years or approximately 1000 times slower than the climate change that we're currently experiencing.
DeleteIndeed, natural change occurs, incredibly incredibly slowly. In fact so slow it's almost imperceptible. It's not this accelerating measurable change that we can see on a year-over-year basis.
Another example of how the media really is not on the side of the lower and middle classes.
ReplyDelete"YOU MUST ACCEPT WHAT I SAY AS FACT". The absolute state of libtards
ReplyDelete1046, if it's science, yes, that is how it works. There is not one set of math if you have an R and another math if you have a D next to your voter identification. when did people turn into this idea that somehow immutable things are up for debate? I don't know if an entire generation of middle-aged voters did not pay attention in school, or if it was all that hippie shit out of the sixties that fucked with your parents brains because of all the dope they did when they were pregnant with you, but you guys are fucking hopeless when it comes to understanding the world we live in.
Delete“Facts are not facts, and truth is not truth”. The absolute state of repubturds today.
DeleteThe world has been warming since about 1700, which was the temperature nadir of the Little Ice Age. The world was hotter than it is now during the Medieval Warm Period, over a thousand years ago. It's called natural climate variability. Unless you continue to believe in Mann's repeatedly debunked hockey stick diagram, there has been no observed worldwide recent increase in the rate of warming.
ReplyDeleteThis is not been debunked. What has happened is that the climate change doubters which are funded in fact by oil companies and the fundamentalists who believe the Earth is 8000 years old, somehow paired up with all of the really awful elements of society and that would include these anti-vaccination people, the Faith healers, the charlatans, the televangelist and somehow have created debate where there is none. As real as the sun rising in the East, there is irrefutable proof of climate change caused by human beings. That is a fact. That is the best science. You may not like this fact, but it is no less true.
DeleteWhat's unfortunate is the poor decisions made today by those who want to deny science will ultimately cause this hell on earth for the generations down the road.
Have KCPL itemize the costs mandated by The Obama EPA , and then ask what has the Trump EPA done to change that? The answer is NOTHING. The unelected bureaucracy is doing their best to resist change until the election of Pres. Kamala Harris or Pres Fauxcahontas.
ReplyDeletePull your kids out of public schools and start teaching them at home. Don't let them outside because they might hear or see something that does not agree with your beliefs. Insulate them from the "fake news world" that lurks all around. Trash your smartphones, TV's, radios, and other communication devices. Good luck to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteAir coditioninng separates rich from poor. Tune out tune in turn on
ReplyDeleteSo which journalist said it?
ReplyDeleteBecause if you said it? You're not a journalist, Tony.
AND YEAH FUCK SCIENCE, AND FACT-BASED CONCLUSIONS.
hey 12:23. It was dave helling who said it. He has been repeating the same garbage over and over on the talk shows. I think Tony takes apart the idea very well. It's just PR for KCP&L. That's all The Star does nowadays.
DeleteNot only was it Helling but Steve Kraske as well
DeleteGarbage Barge Of Toxic Politics
ReplyDeleteAh, the dying KC Star. Never afraid to put themselves out there and stand up for the big guy.
ReplyDeleteGlobal Warming Is An Inconvenient Truth
ReplyDelete-----Al "I Invented The Internet" Gore
Al Gore, privileged son of a wealthy U.S. Senator, groomed to be President one day. Educated in some of the finest private schools of Washington, D.C. and the East Coast.
Went to Vietnam with his private bodyguard, serving as a military "journalist", so he could include it on his political resume. Came home to Tennessee, smoked a lot of marijuana, lived off the family fortune, and briefly "worked" at a small newspaper. Began fulfilling his destiny when he announced he would run for office.
Fast-forward; he runs with Bill "coke-head rapist" Clinton as the Democrat Vice-Presidential candidate. He's a douchebag do-nothing Veep. In 2000, he's the Democrats nominee for President. Before the election goes to the Supreme Court, Gore agrees to a buyout and won't challenge his loss or ask for a recount. George W. must become President if the September 11, 2001 plans are to proceed forward.
Al Gore is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, a Grammy, an Emmy, made a director at Apple Computer, an advisor to Google, and starred in the Academy Award documentary An Inconvenient Truth. He's also a partner at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins, and honorary "visiting professor" at several universities.
You're not supposed to remember that he divorced wife Tipper, was accused of rape several years ago, and his kids have been involved with drugs, car crashes, and other legal problems. The Gore estate in the Nashville TN area consumes more electricity and water annually than 25 average TN homes. Gore travels by private jet and motorcade. How's that for conserving energy and saving the planet?
Way too long. Will never read.
Deletekcpl's parent is forging ahead as a leader in wind-generated electricity. just for the record.
ReplyDeleteA journalists just politicizing a situation. Happens every day.
ReplyDeleteSince Tipper and Al divorced evidently Tipper finally wised up.
ReplyDeleteJournalist? You're using that term very loosely.
ReplyDeleteClimate change is a great excuse for bigger profits, higher salaries, dividends, bonuses.
ReplyDeleteCirco got a nice cushy gig with KCPL when she left the council.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Helling's just dialing for dollars as he watches the water creep up to the third floor of the Star.
Sly's pretty much got the lock on Burns and Mac.
They all need local places to land because their abilities certainly aren't going to propel any of them upwards.
KC Peter Principle in action!
By all means, go to private school where you can learn the earth is only 6,000 years old and the biggest climate change event was when Noah had to build an ark to survive the greatest flood of all time.
ReplyDeleteIdiots.
The temperature has gone up on Mercury, Venus and Mars too. Guess what we all have in common ? Not Hummers.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Kanders gunna git in and launch a corruption investigation into KCPL's sleezy and dishonest operations. Circo will be put on the hot seat and claim the First.
ReplyDeleteI thought Trump got rid of all the power plant regulations to get us cheap energy. Coal is back. Paris accords are out.
ReplyDeleteHe lied?
BTW - Gas is 40 cents a gallon higher from last summer too.
5:41, I think you mean the Fifth.
ReplyDeleteTrump said that global warming was a Chinese Hoax.
So, no matter what it really is, we know for certain, that it's not a Chinese Hoax.
^^You're a piece of shit.
