TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! ACTIVIST QUESTION BEFORE PETITION DRIVE: SHOULD KANSAS CITY BAN DOCKLESS ELECTRIC SCOOTERS?!?!
The war for control of Kansas City streets worsens and recent City Hall plans to limit traffic and spend and exorbitant cash on an upcoming "road diet" have sparked push back.
To wit . . .
GRASSROOTS ACTIVISTS LAUNCH RESEARCH INTO A KANSAS CITY DOCKLESS SCOOTER BAN!!!
There are a lot of reasons for this but a few stand out . . .
- Plans for KCMO "Road diets" and other streetscape schemes don't offer any demonstrable economic impact and threaten to limit business simply for the sake of scooters and bikes.
- Injuries from scooters are starting to mount and threaten innocent pedestrians and bystanders.
- Liability and other public safety issues have inspired cities to ban dockless electric scooter sharing. KCMO would only follow the lead of bigger, better municipalities.
And so . . .
We ask . . .
SHOULD KANSAS CITY BAN SCOOTERS?!?!
As usual, the discussion starts on TKC but will ultimately move to local ballots.

They really can't do this soon enough, something needs to be done before somebody gets seriously hurt.

Get it done. Mayor & council should have never approved.
I'm sure the "creative class" will get angry over this but the first electric scooter was manufactured in the 60s. This isn't new technology. It's a gimmick.

Give it time tjey will ban themselves. Either the company will realize it isn't a good model. Or the ban the straws and soda crowd will see too many of their voters getting hurt and cry to ban them.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the first post these scooters are a pain in the butt and someone is going to get hurt or killed. They are motorized skate boards and don't belong on city streets, extremely dangerous.
They already look like junk laying on the ground or sitting unused most of the time.

Commuter rail, like NYC, are folks that are actually transiting to Grand central, then have an extensive network of public transit to get them to the next stop. I do not know where all the folks are going when they take the highway, but i do no think it is to go downtown to work. I suspect offices downtown have always been 1/2 empty and even if u shunted folks dwontown like every other tom dick harry passing through town, but not going to town, then folks get on the MAX bus? . I like that clay is a public transit pain in the ass. His commuter seems more like a recreational commuter train. Has he talked with rail dudes, 2 usurp exisiting tracks or does this require laying new tracks? Otherwise i am baffled by this 1.3 billion price tag. The toy train may be worth the money and if it went to plaza ridership would go up as long as you tell folks where parking garages are.
ReplyDeleteScooters need to stay in the bike lane, b/c who wants to ride a bike in those bike lanes, especially downtown. Altho I watched some lady fool almost wipe out in front of me making a left, fell off scooter did a hop skip almost bite dust then hop back on. I rolled my eyes. Scooter are popular downtown, bikes ain't, but scooters can not go mosey into traffic to take a left fool.
I would not want to pay any extra 1000 in property tax if i lived nearby, especially since i heard rumor the walnuts waived themselves out of it. Not sure if that is true or not.
ReplyDeleteCan't you transport your car by rail some places? Pretty sure i has a relative that took a train and stuck his car on the train to ship to gety west. Why are there not kennel cars for the family pet instead of sticking a 20lbr in a bag to sit at your feet?

This is our problem?? A bunch of soy boys riding around on a scooter? Murder rate out of control, plaza about to become bannister mall via 1992 (a major city symbol mind you),water and power companies that are monopolies, charging anything they want. Roads are atrocious, cannot determine anything on an airport and this is our issue. How about this feckless/lame duck mayor come up with one solution to all of this. Stop and frisk is a great start. Worked for Rudy in New York 20 years ago. The legacy he is leaving behind is a gift to the scumbags who have fed from the same trough he has. At this point, he's making funkhouser look like Eisenhower.

ReplyDeleteNot scooter related but the same thing will happen to them so, I’m getting something to drink at QT on 40 & sterling (past the stadiums for you hipsters in the hood) and guess what homie was riding clearly outside the downtown loop? One of those stupid bikes they rent downtown, didn’t know those things were supposed to leave downtown, clearly this thing was stolen, yup, won’t be long before the scooters start getting stolen and parted out for scrap.
