After more than 40 years of dedicated service, the leader of a beloved Kansas City institution is stepping down.
Many thanks to AN AWESOME TKC TIPSTER who informs our blog community . . .
"Mark McHenry is retiring from Parks and Recreation at the end of the year."
Mr. McHenry is one of the most respected and tireless advocates for KCMO Parks and the department has made tremendous advances under his stewardship.
Nevertheless, this is TKC so even with high praise we must also share a bit of salt . . .
Two things . . .
NOTICE THAT KC PARKS DIRECTOR MARK McHENRY IS OUT BEFORE THE MLK BLVD DECISION IS FINALIZED!!!
The reality . . . The issue is tougher for KC Parks than most realize as they strive to protect the historic legacy of local landmarks and have voiced opposition against the demands of a group of East side ministers. While KC Parks serves thousands upon thousands from the urban core, this politically charged debate sets up the institution as the bad guy.
More importantly . . .
Insiders are desperate for an outside hire.
Terry might be the shoo-in but it's the hope of many within the dept. that the search for a new director is advertised far and wide in order to find someone who can live up the the sterling reputation of Mr. McHenry.
Developing . . .
Thank you for acknowledging Mark's work TKC.
ReplyDeleteHe has given his career to KC and I'm afraid what is going to become of KC parks in his absence.
Please don't hire some idiot hipster moron from out of state.
ReplyDeleteThese parks are a waste of space! Valuable real estate! We need apartments on them and streetcars running though them. We need to compete and keep the momentum!
ReplyDeleteHe's by far the best administrator the city has now. Very large shoes to fill.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the Parks and Rec department keeps the pothole pansy program going full steam ahead and gaining momentum.
ReplyDeleteCity no doubt will hire someone who will wreck everything in sight.
ReplyDeleteToo bad but he did serve a lot of time to the city.
ReplyDeleteGoodbye blinky!
ReplyDeleteLiberty's Director of Finance retires,
ReplyDeletethen KCMO's Director of Parks and Rec retires...
"I love the smell of AUDITS in the morning, it smells like Panic!"
So are the Pickleball courts at Minor Park still on the schedule?
