OPEN SPACES OR EMPTY SPACES?? KANSAS CITY SWOPE PARK ARTSY FEST SUFFERS EPIC ATTENDANCE FAIL!!!

Just a quick tidbit after we've seen some pix of the weekend festivities and a highly touted, taxpayer subsidized music festival . . .

A GLIMPSE AT KANSAS CITY "OPEN SPACES" REVEALS SPARSE CROWDS AND THE LIKELIHOOD THAT MAYOR SLY WASTED $500K ON THIS URBAN CORE ARTS FEST!!!

Here's a shot shared by a social media friend that offers an unfiltered look at the festival . . .

Remember . . . It was widely documented that City Hall’s commitment was about $500,000, but Mayor James said he was confident that the city will kick in more.

To be fair, the artist wasn't angry about the lack of attendance and seemed to be supportive of the event. By and large the local arts community has been grateful to City Hall for the promotion and infusion of cash.

On the other hand . . .

KANSAS CITY TAXPAYERS HAVE SUFFERED NOTHING BUT HYPE AND FAKE NEWS ON "OPEN SPACES" ATTENDANCE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! PHOTOS FROM THE SCENE EXPOSE THE COSTLY LOW TURNOUT CITY HALL CONSPIRACY!!!

Whilst supporting the arts is important, it's hard to justify this expense given the obvious dearth of community support despite overwhelming local hype.

You decide . . .

  1. They should have just burned the money, at least they would be able to keep the hobos warm on colder nights.

    1. Empty spaces is nice, they really should rename the even. My suggestions is "Wide Open Spaces" so at least nobody can accuse us of misleading advertising.

Strother, brown town? You're a world class moron. If you knew anything about this arts festival you'd understand that most of the performer and artists ARE WHITE. Crawl back into your hole buddy, you don't know anything about KC.

  6. Well most of the artists might be white but he keeps throwing these events in all black and dangerous areas, so of course no one is going to show up. Looks like Strother martin has a point we all know what happens when Sly James tries to put things like this together it ends in fighting and shooting.

Oh and I'm from this city and it's true we have a huge black population so Browntown is not off the mark for that part of town.

  7. Sly spent our money to win some more friends, seems very questionable. This is a festival that no one asked for and very few wanted. I think an audit would be wise!

  8. You are some COMPLAINING beetches!

KC wastes millions on some b.s. that is much less attendance on this. It's good that they brought money to Swope park. Better than than another empty soccer field or more crossroads junk that spends most of the month without a single visitor.

Don't be such haters. Open spaces was a good idea that just needs better coverage than this TKC nonsense!

    1. Get an ice pack for your sore butt. The thing was a flop, period. A half-million dollar flop at that. sLIE and his reckless spending can’t be out of office soon enough.

  9. Ripoff plain and simple, whoever said an AUDIT was the right on the money. But that will never happen because KC is so corrupt.

  13. Most of the art community are homosexuals and not good at self defense. They are smart enough to stay out of the ghetto.

  14. Hey Strother Martin, I noticed you carried an A03-03 Springfield bolt gun in the 'Wild Bunch' in 1969. In 1977 you were in a 2-part Rockford Files, 'T.T.Flowers and the Bees'. It looked like the exact same rifle. Since you are speaking beyond the grave, please enlighten your legions of fans on this small matter, if you can.

  15. Again, a lot of bitching. I think if you douches actually created something instead of complaining, you might be happier!

  16. Boring “arts”. What kind of performers were there? “Street poets”?

  17. Tony needs to be careful as Go4KC will be on TKC, as soon as he is finished with Slie, complaining how unfair this post is.

Keep up the good work Tony.

  18. The City is going to end up spending a lot more than $500,000, more like $1.2 Million!!

  19. Needs better Marketing. No real advertising for it that I saw.
