Meet The New Port KC Honcho

Here's downtown promo for a longtime political pundit and now that new dude in charge of one of the shadiest development organizations in Kansas City . . . Hopefully, he'll help them come out of the dark ages and offer a bit more transparency regarding the ongoing local civic scheme to populate the metro (and possibly the world) with luxury condos. Development professional to lead Port KC

The Board of Commissioners of Port KC announced on Tuesday that it has selected long-time economic development and civic executive Jon Stephens as President & CEO. With more than two decades of leadership experience spanning development, tourism and civic affairs Stephens comes to this new role from the Unified Government of Wyandotte County & KCK, where he served most recently as Director of Economic Development.

  1. Doesn’t the port have a history of corruption and mismanagement? What does it even do?

  2. From a respected KC former councilman: Mike Burke pulled four million dollars out of KC Port Authority. Legal fees for convention hospitality advice?
Apparently, Port Authority has made questionable loans to insiders far from river front. Where are investigative journalists? Pulitzer Prize may await. Kraske need not apply.

  4. Just another "civic leader" looting the city he will leave when it goes bankrupt.

  5. So all the corrupt is that way the old leader left too

  6. I thought this open Port Authority position was for Troy Schulte when he gets fired as city manager for the way he rigged the Cerner, airpot and hotel deals. I hope Troy doesn't have to move out of town and uproot his kids from school. (Sarcasm)

  7. 12:21pm the city council is too blind to see whats going on. Every Mayor debate moving forward should discuss how these deals above were structured and executed. They should discuss the development posture and positioning of KCMO. When the full facts are revealed the city manager will get the boot. It may not be until after sLie leaves office, but Troy will be moving on to another city - or jail. Trust me.

  10. Jon Stephens....what a F*CKING JOKE!

Former local hack for Baltimore's Cordish Co. as they REAMED KCMO taxpayers with the Power and Light District boondoggle. Then James and Schulte allowed them to come back and REAM KCMO taxpayers many more times with subsidized luxury high-rises and parking garages.

Stephens kept his head permanently inserted in Sylvester James' ass, serving as a constant public relations cheerleader on Ruckus, while feeding at the City Hall contracts trough. All while running his Rockhill Strategic "consulting" from a Kansas address.

Port KC (formerly The Port Authority of Kansas City) is a semi-autonomous state agency, overlooked and with little to no oversight or regulation. The last few years it's been transformed into a real estate developer's "wet dream" as someone figured out they could issue bonds for whatever the hell they want.
Port KC is where Congressman Carwash's daughter landed with a previously non-existent job title and they failed to advertise the position to the public.
Former Port KC President landed a minority quota executive position with JE Dunn Construction (contractor for Mike Burke's heavy-taxpayer-subsidized convention hotel).

Jon Stephens is an immoral corrupt political hack.
