The season starts for real this week and there has been little progress on one of the nastiest dumps in Kansas City.
We talked about the plight earlier this year and a Council Lady tried to offer a few answers. She's running for Mayor now and pretty much forgot about the 5th District . . . Now, months later there is little progress as urban explorers examine the property.
Here's what they noticed . . .
Chronicles of a Forsaken Explorer: "This is the Hillside Motel in Kansas City, Missouri United States. It was opened in 1985 and closed down in 2010. It has been abandoned for almost a decade and lays in ruins. There were two aggressive homeless men in one of the buildings so we needed to leave . . ."
Take a look:
Developing . . .
Former and future murder site. What a damn shame.
ReplyDeleteThis blight brought to you by Sly James.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great welcome to KC for out of town visitors to Arrowhead and Kauffman.
ReplyDeleteIt's a haunting powerful video, and I'm struck by two themes:
ReplyDelete1) This is the James/Schulte plan for Eastside development.
2) At the 8:00 minute mark, is it fitting that the Brown and Crouppen billboard looms over the disastrous site?
Nice convenient place to hang out if you’re a negro
ReplyDeleteFreakin' hipsters. I'm all for exploring abandon buildings, but wearing open-toed sandals and skinny jeans to explore a junky hangout with exposed metal edges and glass shards everywhere? Please. Get some steel shank hiking boots with high ankle support, cut-proof gloves and heavy canvas pants. Explore like a boss and don't worry about pussy-footing around.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly nice stone work for 1980s construction, was a neat place at one time.
ReplyDeleteI hope the explorers were packing more than good intentions for their own safety.
I think that motel was built way before 1985. I think they are mistaking it with another motel on the other side of the street.
ReplyDeleteI expected to see a comment from Go4KC on here aboutthe momentum we have in Kansas City. Is this an example of the momentum? Probably better than a young girl getting shot at the Linwood grocery shoplifting store.
ReplyDeleteozark should film an episode there.
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of problem kander has no knowledge or interest in fixing. I dont know who I'll vote for mayor but it won't be him
ReplyDeleteI wonder if these dipshits know it’s against the law to trespass, just sayin
ReplyDelete...but the millennials got a fucking street car. Can't fund both, kids.
ReplyDeleteConvert it to condos.
ReplyDeleteThis blight is not inside the downtown loop so Slie does not care.
ReplyDeletethanks for this story. had wondered what this place was.
