TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! KANSAS CITY INSIDERS: 'OPEN SPACES' FEST EXHIBITS MAYOR SLY'S MISPLACED PRIORITIES!!!
This week, Kansas City taxpayers are paying big bucks for an artsy festival that will serve as one of the last big parties offering tribute to Mayor Sly James and some of his most loyal cronies.
Accordingly . . .
KANSAS CITY INSIDERS CONTEND THE "OPEN SPACES" FEST IS A WASTE OF CASH!!!
Here's the word from one of the smartest readers of this blog . . .
The Mayor's office pet project festival featuring Janelle MonĂ¡e and others reportedly hit up NTDF for more than $500K.
Likewise, this weekend . . . The Miss Black America Pageant claimed they were going to draw 1,500 out of town attendees yet the crowning was held at the 500 seat Gem Theater. The event garnered approximately $100K from NTDF and another City funding sources. How many people actually attend the pageant and its related activities? Did any photos come across your social media platforms?
Similarly, residents and taxpayers can name countless other needs that are far more pressing. Just like the pageant, it's unclear if the Swope Park "Open Spaces" festival will garner very many attendees and there is little interest among the residents of the urban core given the limited appeal of the artistic offerings and musical guests for nearby residents.
The main point here . . .
KANSAS CITY INSIDERS ARE SKEPTICAL ABOUT THE BENEFIT OF THE "OPEN SPACES" FESTIVAL AIMED AT BRINGING HIPSTERS TO SWOPE PARK!!!
Moreover, insiders know that these taxpayer funded festivals are mostly a scheme to funnel political patronage. Accordingly, the measure of success for Summer good times isn't really about attendance but to serve as yet another cultural "institution" which locals feel obligated to support despite limited benefit for the community overall.
Developing . . .
Total waste of cash. Might as well burn the money.
ReplyDeletebut look closer, getting money to the organizers is really the main point here.
I'd like to see The Roots but I'm not going to Swope Park to do it. Can we get them another gig quickly so that the rest of us can seem them. This was a bad plan.
DeleteThis entertainment brought to you by the state. All performers and performances are government approved. Kinda like going to a show in China.
ReplyDeleteMany of the 25 million anally tourists will make an appearance at the festival.
ReplyDeletesLIE trying to burn as much money as possible on keeping his people in the democratic lane, bribes are what these are
ReplyDeleteMost people are familiar with the term “nixxxx rich.” This is precisely what happens when politicians like sLIE get access to tax dollars. The “projects” are all about showing off and have zero actual merit. KCMO did itself in by voting for him. Enjoy the fest!
ReplyDeleteLike crime and the mayors pizza parties.
ReplyDeleteNot unlike PIAC, NTDF has outlived it's true purpose and is now just a slush fund for dubious-at best- projects...
ReplyDeleteIt has recently turned into a "slush fund". It was managed differently before sLie fired the former cochairs.
DeleteVery accurate comment, 10:59am, but this "fund" and many others have been nothing more than slush funds for many years.
ReplyDeleteTake a good look at where $20 million in the county COMBAT program goes year after year.
There are many tens of millions of tax dollars in KCMO that are spent on totally unaccountable fake nonprofits that make believe they're actually trying to so something to curb crime, but the great majority of these "programs' are nothing more than make-work fake jobs programs for family, friends, and supporters.
Hang around the 22nd floor city council offices and you'll see an endless line of grifters and usual suspects dialing for dollars.
And run out of money in one account?
The council will just move dollars around to keep the trough full.
How residents and what few voters turn out for elections in KCMO and Jackson County let this go on year after year and during one mayoral administration after another boggles the mind.
Haven't heard much from Aim4Peace recently. How much have they burned through so far this year?
"Similarly, residents and taxpayers can name countless other needs that are far more pressing."
ReplyDeleteOur streets could use some work. 63rd east of Troost--especially near Prospect reminds me of Tajikistan.
No gun play at the Ms. Black pageant made it a success !
ReplyDeletebillions of dollars in lost taxes that we have to make up for and he thinks spending some money on an ethnic festival that you have to pay for the food and drink. Tell me how this is supposed to make us feel better?
ReplyDeleteTossing free banana's to the crowds.

ReplyDeleteWhen Alex Haley was researching his book Roots, he discovered that Kunta Kente was related to the first black prostitute. Her name was Renta Kunte.

ReplyDeleteOF COURSE it's a waste of money. That's the point. Why we keep electing clowns like this is the real question.
ReplyDeleteSlie’s East Side Art Folly will be a total failure! Money thrown away to feed his ego! It will be a financial disaster worse than last years “ KC Jazz & Heritage Festival”. The money from NTDF used to go to local groups, but who knows which of Slie’s friends will end up with our tax dollars? Bet the STAR never covers this corruption!!
ReplyDeletePeople who don't know the talent from the Blues and Jazz who have done few or no Festivals in KC will be a bust . Cost will over ride ticket sales . If 500 people went to the GEM tickets should of been $200 each . Wonder how many were given away
ReplyDeleteThe GEM seats 501. LOL
