The latest spate of Kansas City violence has created an important shift about in the urban core discourse ahead of elections. While politicos are busy making promises and hoping to drum up last minute support; inner-city voters are rightfully asking about what elected leaders have done to counter increasing violence in the community.

Again, before readers write-off the influence of Mr. Washington, let's note that he has been EXTRAORDINARILY SUCCESSFUL on Facebook over the past year with a series of livecasts which reach thousands of viewers and posts that typically earn dozens of shares and hundreds of likes throughout the metro. Moreover, during the past week of deadly local violence, he served as the top ranking source of real-time news for thousands of his devoted followers. He was first to break the story of a woman murdered on Troost and provided EXCLUSIVE details into a the horrific slaughter of a woman and her younger lover.
Accordingly, here's what he has to say about the mayoral contest, politics overall before the primary and KCMO crime . . . Checkit:

I don’t really endorse elected leaders but if Jason Kander has a solid crime plan. I might tell Black people to vote for him. I have a lot of power I don’t use.

Funny that Kander can make a better on play on violence than Lucas & Reed. If he shows any competence on this issue then he has the upper hand. I also think Washington just found the Achilles heel of Lucas that might even take him out of the primary.

ReplyDeleteNo politician, no city council and no police department is going to stop the violence in KC. No they won’t all eventually die or be put in jail. This violent culture will continue to be passed down to other generations who will become even worse. This is not a black or white race issue it’s just how kids are being raised now. Change must come from home first, then schools must raise the bar and educate and then mental health services are needed for the ones that don’t quite get it. Then we need jobs for people and they need to learn skills useful to employers not just having a worthless KCPS school diploma.

I've never been against Alonzo Washington, because, as ghetto as he is, he always seemed smart and had a modicum of sense. Of course, any idiot would know that one person/police department/government cannot suddenly make the world a better place. Why can't black folks, collectively, accept that we have some power, some say in our lives. Stop, asking other people to fix us. We ain't broke! We just need to speak up in our families. ReplyDeleteHere's my anti crime plan: (1) Implement stop-and-frisk; (2) Build more prisons; (3) Support a law that would make it legal to use deadly force to stop theft of or damage to valuable property; and (4) Fire judges who free criminal defendants on little or no bail, or who impose a wrist slap sentence for a violent crime, when the perp soon thereafter shoots somebody. Any other plan will just cost a lot of money and will have no downward effect on crime.

They were going to back Taylor before Kander decided to use the KC May's office as a stepping stone to Washington DC. Wherever the developers, and political donors line up...you can bet struggling Kansas City residents will be on the hook for more risky projects backed by the full faith and credit of the Kansas City general budget.

Nobody would deny that, I've seen how much he has influenced reporting in KC over the years so I think he does have more influence than what people give him credit for. Kander would be wise to talk with him and get him on the camapign team. What we'll see from the other people running for mayor is just repeating the same old bunk how they'll improve kc with no real answers about how they'll do it.
