TKC FRIDAY FAREWELL!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY CELEBRATES FINAL 'ROCK THE BLOCK' PARTY!!! DID IT HELP PREVENT VIOLENT TEEN FLASH MOBS AT ALL???

For tonight let's focus on yet another failed effort to control violence in Kansas City over the course of Mayor Sly's tenure.

To wit . . .

THIS WEEKEND DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY CELEBRATES MAYOR SLY'S FINAL FAILED "ROCK THE BLOCK" PARTY!!!

Let's not forget the series of Summer parties was a response to violent teen flash mobs taking over the streets of the County Club Plaza during Mayor Sly's 1st year in office.

At the start of his political career the violence was so bad that the mayor was forced to dive into some bushes at the sound of Plaza gunfire during a presser event.

He later enacted a curfew and proposed a series of pizza parties and community center events to serve as a distraction to the ongoing racial tensions betwixt younger crowds and beleaguered merchants.

The problem didn't go away but has waned over the years as the Plaza has lost its luster and hundreds of millions of dollars worth of value as a real estate property.

Mayor's Nights was actually a program started by former Mayor & current Congressman Cleaver but the "Rock the Block" finale for the Summer was something that the current Administration dreamed up all on their own.

For years the party was disgraced by violent outbursts and chaotic fighting along with neighborhood vandalism even as the Mayor defended the effort.

The blowout party was so bad that, behind the scenes, it was kicked out of Union Station and moved across the street to a junkie park during daylight hours.

Nevertheless . . .

This weekend hosts the culmination of the freebie celebration that neither curbed violence nor offered a viable model for to prevent youth mobs from terrorizing local entertainment districts.

To be fair, there was a lot of great pizza and fun times in between brutal and often deadly urban core KCMO Summer fighting.

You decide . . .

  1. If we had a real newspaper or if city hall was really accountable, there would've been some kind of audit so KC could have known the cost and judged its effectiveness. Instead it was treated like a fart that nobody wanted to acknowledge.

And to answer your question. NO it did not work and actually prevented us from talking about realistically addressing violent juvenile offenders in KC.

    1. ^^^^^^^^^ No, no, no! You can address them. But only with pizza.

    2. The next mayor should promise that he's not going to keep up this silly farce and instead will just put more police on the streets.

  2. Good job, Mayor Bullhorn! You did absolutely nothing of value but create slogans while violence spiraled out of control.

  3. They prevented DRAGONS, TOO! Because the threat from dragons and flash mobs are about the same.

    1. Dang it! And here I was believing the extensive actual video, news, and social media coverage of how the diversity horde was ruining the area.

  4. Mayor James is a fraud. He showed his true colors when he did absolutely nothing to crib violence. Instead blaming gun laws for the increase in murders of young blacks from the inner city.

He has no respect for those lives.

  7. How does a party that runs from 10 am to 4 pm do anything to curb TNB in the evening/nighttime?

  8. ^10:42, real witty on that lil' ditty. LOL!

TKC, those phrases of yours evoke big laughs (well, maybe nervous chuckles) from the funny (and, sadly FUBAR) imagery:

"...forced to dive into some bushes..."

    "...Plaza has lost its luster..."

"...moved across the street to a junkie park during daylight hours."

"...great pizza and fun times in between brutal and often deadly urban core KCMO Summer fighting."

    Hey, when's the M L K anagram get posted?

  9. Rock the Block: because one 'community' can't be bothered to parent their own.

  10. Completely wasted tax money which has already shown to have no results whatsoever on "teen" behavior.
And it will probably end early, as usual, because of violence.
But let's at least hope this is the last of these farces.
And it's only a warm-up for squandering thousands of dollars.
Don't forget the big "arts" show in Swope Park to the tune of at least half a mil.
You really can't make this stuff up.
Sly may not realize it yet, but his chair has already been pulled away and the music is about to stop.
