TKC EXCLUSIVE QUESTION!!! DESPITE 'QUEER EYE' LOVE: IS KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES NOW A LAME DUCK?!?!

Yesterday KCMO Mayor Sly put on a big smile for the cast of a top ranking reality TV makeover show . . .

Meanwhile, our blog community was FIRST to break news of widespread urban core resistance to his high tax Pre-K plan.

And now . . .

AMID PRESSURE FROM CONSTITUENTS: COUNCIL THREATENS TO DELAY THE VOTE ON THE PRE-K SALES TAX WHICH WOULD PRETTY MUCH KILL IT!!!

More on the topic here . . .

Kansas City council considers pushing back pre-K tax vote

KCPS asks mayor, city to delay vote on proposed sales tax for pre-K education

The threat is real and would do a lot to keep Mayor Sly from meddling in upcoming elections. Moreover, KCMO is becoming tax weary whilst inner-city objections to the regressive levy should give pause to proponents.

Still . . .

The takeaway from this latest City Hall slap fight is that Mayor Sly now has much more influence via social media celebrity rather than nearly universally unpopular policy.

  1. Sly has been a lame duck ever since Kander announced he was running for office. He's just not as popular as he used to be. I think he wore out his welcome.

    1. Coudn't care less about Sly, but I KCMO does not need ANOTHER slush fund. Please council, wait on this one and get it right instead of just kicking the can down the road.

  2. I don't get it.

TKC, you say that you want KC to focus on priorities and look out for neighborhoods and this is exactly what the Pre-K funding accomplishes.

This is Mayor James offering something that could help Kansas City for years to come but you're giving into the adult drama rather than focusing on this issue. It's for the students to help the students. But rather than doing that, I don't see anything other than complaint with no solutions.

  4. Go4KC, the solution to this problem of finding funding for "Pre=K Education Expansion" has been discussed on this site and in the Media since the Mayor first announced his plan.

Since the entire lack of funding stems from the (City dominated) TIF Commission's excessively liberal granting of tax relief from School, Library and other taxation in connection with the unnecessary Real Estate Development, the Schools and the Library System are now without the means necessary to expand or even maintain their primary functions. In many, if not most instances, these Tax Grants were made to Developers over the objections of the School Board and Library Board representation on the (again, City dominated) TIF Commission Board.

Since the City created this crisis, it falls upon the City to solve it. The City should IMMEDIATELY cease granting Real Estate Developers any exemptions from any taxation except for City Property Taxes, cancel any such tax exemptions that are now in the proposal stages, and initiate negotiations with Developers to obtain "lump-sum payments" to the School District and Library System as a requirement for any future grants of TIF exemptions from CITY Taxation, in order to provide compensation for past actions.

This would solve future problems, but to address the present shortfall, the "Special Tax Proposal" should be cancelled and re-submitted as a new Property Tax on Downtown Properties (not exempted by TIF status), with a five-year life span and with the funds from the Tax going directly to the School District and not passing through the City's hands.

  10. "Go4KC stated "I don't see anything other than complaint with no solutions."

Go4KC must be blind, not read TKC, not comprehend what is read, a product of the KCMO school system, not recognize a solution when one is put forth and who knows what else. Readers decide which one/ones fit.

There have been many excellent solutions to numerous KCMO problems posted on TKC. Evidently Go4KC refuses to acknowledge these as viable solutions simply because they do hot fit his narrative. Way past time for him to think outside the box and look for solutions that do not fit the narrative.

  11. The Queer Eye guys should start their next makeover with Sly.
    Drop about 100 pounds.
Stop buying sports coats that look like carnival barker outfits.
Get rid of the stash of hideous comical bow ties.
And realize that your days in the sun are all long past and about all that's left is the public debt, which will burden the city for many decades.

  12. HOW LAME IS SYLVESTER JAMES?

  15. Those Queer Eye boys are cute.

I hope Kander loses. I don't care to who. I will vote for whoever emerges as his prime opponent.

I wish Jolie was able to stay in, but I understand the politics of it. (And yes... she licks a lot of kitty cat. Who gives AF?).

  16. Questions:
    1) Did sLIE tell the Queer Eye cast how he treated his own late gay son?
    2) Go4KC, doesn’t it get pretty hard to breathe having your nose in sLIE’s buttcrack 24/7? Whose ass do you intend to leech onto when your big daddy is out of office?

  17. Pre K programs do not produce lasting gains in children who attend them. Not that results matter in this discussion. If results were important considerations, Head Start and DARE would have been jettisoned long ago.

If the city really wants to help the children of trailer trash and hood rats, it should take them from their parents at birth and raise them in an environment that will teach them to know right from wrong.

  18. Sly could not care less about pre-K. He just needs another source to steal from.

  21. Go4KC (Sly) says TKC posters just complain and never offers any solutions. Hmmmmmmmmmm appears the fool only reads what he wants to read. Many and I mean many posts have been made to halt the street car and TIF handouts in Kansas City. I myself have made many posts and stories pointing out the waste of funds in Kansas City by it's leaders since James took office. When a city can't fund it's basic needs or take care of what it already has due to handing out money like candy on Halloween another tax isn't the answer. The answer is leadership in City Hall that knows how and can run a city as it should be ran. I am not educated in city management but even I can see where I could vasting improve this city in many areas.

  25. Always a day late and a dollar short, I think KCMO is finally waking up and realizing what a schmuck the mayor is and has always been. NOTHING he has done was inspired by anything more than delusions of grandeur and self importance. Too bad it took so many people this long to get a clue.
