This morning 96.5 The Buzz is confronting a wave of terrestrial radio listener hateration after their decision to opt out of renewing a contract for one of their most popular on-air personalities.
More to the point . . .
AMID THE DEMISE OF LEGACY MEDIA: AFENTRA IS OUT AT THE BUZZ!!!
Local impact . . .
This is a big deal for our blog community given that Afentra is one of the most strident "progressives" in the local media scene.
However, she's just a bit too raunchy to start working over at KCUR like all of the Kansas City Star rejects collecting taxpayer subsidized public radio freelancer welfare.
Anyhoo . . .
This morning Danny Boi had a virtual on-air breakdown trying to explain the news and stay upbeat.
Before we feel too sorry for her, let's not forget that she earned a big loss for her station with a pr0n star legal fight that cost one million bucks.
Still, there's no denying that her outspoken politics garnered her a great deal of love among the younger denizens of the LGBT community who don't really care about policy but enjoy hearing a local talker badmouth Republicans.
Nevertheless . . .
As the decline of terrestrial radio continues . . . Liberals and conservatives alike are being pushed out of the on-air game.
Developing . . .
I agree that she wasn't so much political as she was a smart ass. She had a good style and was unique for KC. But that style of radio now works better in podcast form.
ReplyDeleteThis round goes to Johnny Dare!
DeleteHe'll be able to hang on for at least a few more years.
ReplyDeleteDoes the LGBT community know that their biggest haters are democrats??? LMAO
Glad to see her go. Too foul mouthed for radio.
ReplyDelete9:51, where did you get that nonsense?
ReplyDeleteShe was enjoyable years ago, before they went to Seattle, or wherever it was they went for awhile, but glad she is gone. I hope Lazlo goes next. Affentra's voice alone was enough to make me stream music in the morning, and Lazlo's politics (go back and listen to his screeds on guns - "I'm anti-gun, unless my kids are in danger, but then only I should have a gun, not you, because I am special..."), force a streaming session too. Idiots. Both should be in Seattle, but they are too cowtown-ish for the ultra-progressive west coast communities. Take Danny Boi with you, Affentra. The Buzz is changing. They can't claim to be alternative any longer. The Bridge is 100% more alternative. I'd rather listen to Jack FM any day of the week than some random Miley Cyrus shit on "the alternative" station. Buh bye now.
ReplyDeleteShe is the one who Glazer called a C**T which led to him being banned at Entercom. So she did have some power at once so much in fact even Dare couldn't save his buddy from the ban.
ReplyDeleteShe was still around? I'm still surprised 96.5 is still around considering it's one of the fakest and most cancerous local stations out there. I'm basically they're target demographic...guy with a a decent income in his 20s-30s, and I long recognized how artificial they were. They're musical tastes aren't all that interesting, esoteric, or even helpful to those who want to discover new music. They'll play the Stone Roses every now and then because, oh la la so cutting edge, when really it's shit the 19 year old college freshman listens while thinking he's interesting or that they're actually an incredibly popular band.
ReplyDeleteThey came back from seattle because they're obvious frauds and got called out on it immediately. I lived there for a while and even though the music scene isn't what it used to be up there, it is still pretty advanced. Like, down here in KC (I love KC more than seattle, btw) a band like the Black Angels is seen as sort of indie, while up there it's a band for frat boys and douche bags. Anyway, thank god they're gone. I hope they find new jobs and aren't destitute, but the KC radio scene is better for it.
Yea agree!!! I started listening to the station cuz I wanted real alternative or indie music I wanted to discover new things musically but that did not happen on that station. Alsoany many other reasons I stopped listening.
DeleteHer ads for cosmetic surgery were hilarious. Lazer this and lazer that. Hair removal and fat sculpting. Haha. She has a face and body made for radio. Good riddance. I got so tired of hearing about the plight of the LGBT community from her I just wanted to bitchslap my partner.
ReplyDeleteThe only people who will miss her are faggots and lesbians.
ReplyDelete^^^^ Well, this faggot won’t miss her! She was an embarrassment,
ReplyDeleteDid her and Lazlo get divorced recently? I wonder if the falling out translated to work issues and one of them had to go. I don't agree with Lazlo's politics but at least him and Slimfast are entertaining. They have some good regular guests and bits that are creative. She and her co-host always felt like they were unprepared. I think she made a point to be offensive and ended up alienating pretty much all of her listeners.
ReplyDeleteOh boy fossils talking about terrestrial radio. Did you fucktards want to grow up to be dullards?
ReplyDelete10:50 Did you plan on growing up and becoming a fucktard and a dullard too? Probably explains the little round circles all over your body from your parents poking you with a ten foot pole to get away from you, maybe you should go visit bass pro shops in Olathe today.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this radio you speak of?
ReplyDeleteI often confuse afentra, lavitra, and Viagra.
ReplyDelete🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
DeleteTime to pull the plug on tween age- undeveloped adult shit radio.
ReplyDeletekc radio in general sucks, imho.
ReplyDeleteno classical station. no oldies station with a consistent format. no jazz station. local talk is puerile. what there is is a scattered mish-mash.
if you lve in kc, you need satellite radio for sure!
^^^ Stay left of 92 on the FM scale. Four great public stations in the area. The talk is always left wing looney, but the music is good.
ReplyDelete^^Ugh. No. Go away. Nobody listens to terrestrial radio. Fucking dinosaur.
ReplyDelete^^Great! Who cares?
ReplyDeleteI loved her. She was funny as hell. Such a smartass. Her iPod shuffle was on point. If the Buzz played Afentra's iPod they'd be one of the most beloved radio stations out there... Jack's morning DJ lead is "Randy Miller" at an alternative station. Want to punch him in response to every other thing that comes out of his mouth.
ReplyDeleteAfentra was really fantastic. Fact is, KC is becoming a crap town and there are better markets she should migrate too. We're really living down to the small market stereotype and this is just more proof!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the shills have come in to defend her terrible program. She couldn't cut it in any other market..this was proven in the failed seattle attempt. Maybe she'd work in Omaha or Iowa city or something. KC radios is surprisingly decent as much as we would like to bitch about it. Most cities, even big cities it's terrible. So as much as we like to complain, it's still pretty good.
ReplyDeleteHow’s Dannyboi a comedian? Afentra could move back to Detroit and work at the carplant. Slimfast is the better part of the church of Lazlo but on their own they sink. I miss the Kenny and Ozone show on the am dial.
ReplyDeleteThey better not get rid of the Church of Lazlo, I listen to that show everyday, it's great. We'll except for Snowcone.. He SUCKS.
ReplyDeleteTeresa are you next?
ReplyDelete85% of it sucks. Own It.
ReplyDeleteThis is how the Lazlow show goes: Sporting KC Trump I don't know...
ReplyDeleteRadio is dead. Welcome to 2008 There's something called "internet" now. Any music, any time.
ReplyDeleteYou will be missed Afentra. Loved the show.
ReplyDeleteWeird. I just read last week that she & Lazlo were divorced, apparently for some time now. I wondered how this was going to work with him as Program Director.
ReplyDeleteThey've got kids. I doubt she'd move far or, if she did, Lazlo would surely follow to be in the same city as his kids.
Remember how the venue for Buzzbeachball 2017 changed from KC sporting Stadium to the amphitheatre with no explanation. All we had was speculation. Afentra love her or hate her. I just find this so upsetting and I only want her to stay in KC and on KC radio or a podcast
ReplyDeleteWhy is it so hard to find the reason WHY they divorced. Where is the real story.
