Photos Tell More Stories Of Wealthy Johnson County's Homeless People

"I thought it was a Boy Scout weekend." That was photographer Sharon Rodriguez 's initial reaction when she encountered a homeless camp near her Olathe residence in 2014. Once she realized that homeless individuals were living under the tarps, Rodriguez had a lot of questions. "Who are they, and why are they homeless?"

  1. Johnson county has some really poor areas in it. Not everyone lives in Leawood, Blue Valley or Prairie Village.

  3. There are some really trashy areas in Olathe, and that’s thanks to the Olathe city government. People saw it coming back in the 1980s and the 1990s. The city embraced section 8 and public housing development and the demographics began to change quickly. I went to Olathe north high school and in 1995 we had a shooting on the school property during a fight on a Sunday night. The shooter was from Shawnee mission north named Alfred Williams....a complete ghetto trash piece. He shot 8 people, one student was killed who was a Mexican straight up from Mexico whose other Mexican friends were dealing coke (their families were) and the other one who was killed was a blood gang member whose mom moved to Olathe to get out the hood from KC. Low income housing opened up a lot of problems for Olathe and that was a huge mistake, but hey now they can celebrate and boast about heir diversity, right?

Now, Olathe west of I-35 and east of Dennis on Santa Fe is Nueva olathea. No speaky English mixed with pockets of ghetto and white trash inbetween. Stabbings have gone up too ironically in the areas that the Mexicans have flooded into.

North JOCO....north Shawnee is more trash. Anywhere you can border Wyandotte County basically. West Shawnee is nice, west Lenexa is nice, newer west Olathe is nice, south Overland Park and south Leawood is nice obviously.

Another shady spot is those apartments and townhomes around the oak park mall area.

  8. Olathe has been this way for years nothing new here, I was looking for a house to buy in Olathe once and there were so many illegals living in the house they had made closets into sleeping rooms. I proceeded to look for a job at the Double Tree hotel and was told the job was filled when at the same time they called a Mexican back for the same interview I was to have. They take our jobs and then bring their huge families illegally into our country. Olathe has been taken over years ago.

Blame the liberals for this, they caused it.

  10. Olathe is kinda trashy. I was banging a broad who lived there and when she would go to work, I would either bang her daughter or the neighbor. All of them were trashy. I am so classy, I had to get back to Riverside and Claycomo.
