Kander Earns More Nationwide Publicity At The Outset Of Kansas City Mayoral Campaign

This week Jason Kander GARNERED 10 MINUTES OF FACE TIME ON THE TOP MORNING SHOW FOR PROGRESSIVES in the nation.

Take a look at the description of his time with the "Morning Joe" crew . . .

"Jason Kander is a former Army intelligence officer who served in Afghanistan and the former Missouri secretary of state, and he has announced he's running for mayor of Kansas City. Kander joins Morning Joe to discuss the move and his new book."

Take a look:

And so we ask our community of political experts . . .

HOW WILL OTHER KANSAS CITY MAYORAL CANDIDATES OVERCOME KANDER'S NATIONAL MEDIA ADVANTAGE?!?!

Let's not forget that he'll also have a great deal of cash for a ground game as well.

Money & fame decide most elections in Kansas City and across the nation but it's unclear if MSNBC will be the final word on local voting.

You decide . . .

  1. I think you're assuming that they will overcome it. Most won't.

    1. Why is kander campaigning for Kansas City mayor in DC?

    2. Dumb-ass ^^^ Because he reaches a bigger audience there.

  2. Roy Blunt nearly lost to kander and he ran a tough campaign and had national funding sources too. Locally, there's nobody that matches the kind of cash, notoriety and talent that he brings to the table. Agree with 8:30. There probably isn't a way for them to balance the equation because the smear campaigns barely worked for Blunt.

  3. does this mean people out in the REAL WORLD are gonna know where kansas is..........

  4. I don't think that's a dumb-ass question. I think it's a valid point to relentlessly nail him on during the election season. There was no higher office open to run for at this time so he chose mayor. He doesn't give a s#!+ about KC. If he did, he'd be addressing the city's problems with the citizens. He's interested in climbing political ladders.

  5. "HOW WILL OTHER KANSAS CITY MAYORAL CANDIDATES OVERCOME KANDER'S NATIONAL MEDIA ADVANTAGE?!?!"

    They won't.

  6. @ 9:18, you may have some valid points, but so what?

If Kander does have ambitions for higher office, then he will HAVE to succeed as Mayor, and undo at least some of the damage done to Kansas City by Barnes and James. He's smart enough to realize that failure as the Mayor of a Mid-Sized City will end his political career. He HAS to get something done!

None of the other Candidates running have any hopes or ambitions beyond getting onto the Gravy Train that Barnes and James built.

Barnes proved that the Mayor's Office in itself isn't enough to serve as a launch pad to higher office without some spectacular successes, and of course James has no place to go, since Cleaver is stalled as a tadpole in The Big Pond.

Kander at least would have motivation to take the steps needed to bring the Budget under control, end the flash and glitter of unsustainable development, and crack down on the criminal element running rampant in this Town. Nobody else running has any reason at all to upset the status quo.

So, even as a temporary Mayor such as Kander would be, he looks like the only real hope we have for electing someone who could get the decline of Kansas City slowed down, if not reversed.

  7. While I disagree with Kander politically I have to give him credit over other candidates in that he is the most active in getting attention. He also meets all of my criteria for getting my vote in that he started at the bottom and has worked his way up. He didn't let the loss to Grietens stop him and he has the political experience I demand for getting my vote. I don't live in KCMO and I always suggest that you get informed of the candidates views and what they stand for and against. Not just advertisements. But plan to be involved and vote no matter who you finally decide is your person to earn your vote.

  9. Sly Was an MP Officer and now we're getting a MI Officer as Mayor of Kansas City. I guess the military is the only branch of government that still functions?

  12. Just like Greitens, Pander has figured out that he can ride on the funds raised by his fake nonprofit only so long before that scam becomes too obvious to anyone, and he has to find other money to finance his overweening ego and ambitions and its means of ascent.
So dig deep, KCMO taxpayers, because you're about to become this phony's checkbook.
Imagine the travel, speeches around the country, television appearance, and all the rest that can be paid for from the KCMO general fund!
And if anyone thinks this guy will be talking about sewers, street repair, public safety, or other municipal issues, you just haven't been paying attention.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your checkbooks!

  13. 11:08. ;the military barely functions and can't win wars. Don't cry that they don't have the resources...they have a huge cut of the budget. So what if Lander served? He didn't accomplish anything...the People don't give a shot about the volunteer army. Gore served but lost to Bush who didn't. Kerry served but also lost to Bush. McCain served but lost to Obama who didn't. Etc.

  14. Kander is a moderate. This would be a stepping stone for a run for President .And he may be One of the few Democrats that would have a National Appeal in 2024. Independent voters would vote for him. The Democrats have no one to run in 2020 that has a national appeal. The party is going to far to the left .And look in the future this guy may switch party's REMEMBER TRUMP WAS A DEMOCRAT. HE MAY STILL BE. BUT FIFTY PERCENT OF THE COUNTRY LIKES HIM AND MANY MORE FEEL THE DEMOCRATS ARE GOING TO FAR TO THE LEFT.

  15. Jason Pander is a CLICHE
    wrapped in a SOUNDBITE
    enveloped by PATHOLOGICAL LYING
    surrounded by NARCISSISM
    suspended in a cloud HOMOSEXUALITY
all encased in a hollow shell of PSYCHOPATHY.

Pander is incapable of real dialogue. He has a handful of glib quotes that he repeats ad nauseum.

He's still talking about ALMOST winning in 2016.

He mentions Afghanistan so much, you'd think he was a 5th generation Afghani. He spent approximately 3 months there, OVER 10 YEARS AGO, living in an isolated heavily guarded compound.

How can Pander be a multi-generational KCMO resident when he was born in KANSAS, went to high school in KANSAS, went to college in WASHINGTON, D.C., his father ran for political office in KANSAS, registered to vote in KANSAS, got married in KANSAS, barely moved across the state line to cherry-pick an open Democrat political race, abandoned KC to move to Columbia, abandoned MO to join the HOLLYWOOD-NYC-WASHINGTON,D.C. crowd, and just recently barely moved into south KCMO a stone's throw from KANSAS?

Hell there aren't 50% of Republicans with a favorable opinion of him!
Shit, man, don't go to Westport when you've been smoking that stuff, one of the Lardbutts will climb into your car with you and then you'll be a rapist!

  20. It not 50 percent on the left Coast OR New York. But He will receive most of his vote in the Midwest and Florida. I predict that he would win before .Let me tell you about polling They over sample Democrats by 14 percent. Most of Tonyskansascity readers already know that but like many that are uninformed .and the information is out there more than ever before.
