Amid Kansas City Hobo Crisis: How Can We Fix Pedestrian Safety Ordinance Without Targeting 1st Amendment Rights???
And let's not forget . . .
ALL OF THIS WOULD BE EASIER IF KANSAS CITY RESIDENTS WOULD JUST STOP GIVING THEM CASH!!!
I know, I know . . . It feels good. I'm broke most of the time and it's still nice to throw a few coins in somebody's cup just because I know things can ALWAYS get worse.
Possible solution that only a really trustworthy company could devise . . . KC based app with local landmarks so that you could donate a few pennies every time you saw a homeless person begging. This would make the user feel better instead of handing over money for drugs.
Again . . . Giving somebody a few dimes to go ahead and have a drink on TKC is something that happens on a very rare occasion. As usual . . . I'm part of the problem.
Even better, check this comprehensive review of the legislation and how it can be tweaked . . . Please share your ideas in the comments.

What gets me is so many white and young homeless people who are veterans who are now on the street panhandling. Something really bad going on there, I've often wanted offer a ride and pay the guy to stand outside of a recruiting center so they can see what they're selling.
ReplyDeleteThat "Veteran" business is horseshit - offer them twenty bucks to show you their VA ID Card and see wat they say!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, making that offer isn't going to cost you a cent!
You mean as opposed to "so many white and young" people attending liberal universities their parents are paying for, joining antifa, majoring in gender studies and other non job resulting courses, burning flags, attacking conservatives with bicycle locks, while learning nothing of the arduous history, good and bad, of our early denizens to create the greatest country on earth? Well, maybe not really the greatest according to president Obominable and NY Cuomo.
ReplyDeleteThing is, 99% of these people have drug and alcohol addiction issues. You don't end up on the streets because you just lost your job (with RARE exceptions). They're collecting money for their next fix or drink.
ReplyDeleteThe only think you are mitigating or preventing by giving them money is them stealing it.
Since when does the first amendment trump safety, these idiots are causing accidents jumping in and out traffic. To hell with the pussy whiny ass city council and aclu. The aclu isn’t right on this one, maybe they should do their begging in front of city council members houses and in the lobby of the aclu and see what happens, this ain’t rocket science folks, grow a pair, make a decision, make them get a permit if the candy ass aclu keeps complaining
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs to stop giving them anything.
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody know if there is any leftover tapioca from tapioca Thursday?
ReplyDeleteThis whole process is a constitutional mine field which probably can't be traversed.
ReplyDelete9:01 is dead on the money
ReplyDelete^^^ only if you allow it to be
ReplyDelete“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
ReplyDeleteI don’t see anything about panhandling in there.
I took a homeless guy camping once, never again ---no "thank you" not a spec of gratitude !
ReplyDelete"Since when does the first amendment trump safety... ."
ReplyDeleteAlmost always.
How about the other approach?
ReplyDeletePass an ordinance levying a $500 fine or 90 days in Jail for donating to one of these Con Men/Women?
This is a cottage industry. Most are not homeless or veterans. They wear dirty clothes and use the name of Jesus on a cardboard sign to get into your mind that you are doing something good for the downtrodden. Most are not downtrodden or even poor. It is tax free income to them, thousands per year. I have seen the tag team approach at intersections, same four to six people taking shifts. They sometimes mess up and have a QT cup with soda in it to drink and new shoes. If people need help send them to CUM or the Salvation Army, they will get help. Otherwise it is a scam.
