Now underway . . . An expensive strategy to help youngsters and consistently under-performing schools . . . And what could but just another City Hall slush fund. Still, we're rather hear from our readers on the topic than yet another talking head pundit opine on City Hall press release hype.

Kansas City Mayor Sly James Announces Petition Campaign For Affordable Pre-K
Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Sly James rolled out the beginning of his "Pre-K for KC" campaign that could help make high quality early childhood education more affordable for local children. The initiative calls for funding the program with a three-eighths cent sales tax increase for Kansas City, Missouri.
We need a one child Welfare policy. Aid in exchange for sterilization, one child.
ReplyDeleteJust vote NO.
ReplyDeleteAbolish the TIF Commission, grant no more TIF, stop giving away the School District's money to developers, and the Schools can fund Pre-K themselves.
ReplyDeleteOr in the case of the KCMOPSD, buy more Escalades for Administrators.
How about an accounting from the kcsd of where the current money their getting is going? How about an accounting of all the money the KCSD gets from the gambling/lottery/sin taxes. How about cutting back on TIFs so Sly doesn't have to keep going to the taxpayers for more and more money.
ReplyDeleteIncrease a very regressive, already excessive, sales tax that very much adversely affects lower income residents to fund pre-K programs for families who can't afford them.
ReplyDeleteOnly as utterly clueless about thoughtful intelligent public policy and who is totally about his own "political celebrity" and future prospects could possibly make such a proposal.
This is certainly one petition that the council needs to ignore.
We all survived with out this. Most of us didn't have anything. We could take PBJ Sandwiches or fried spam/ Balonny to school and MAYBE get a free milk. What bullshit!
ReplyDeleteIt would do nothing but give kids a head start on the illiteracy they will achieve as a result of the worthless school district.
ReplyDeleteThis is only about free laundry, food and babysitting, nothing more, well, and that sLIE can steal half of the money for his developer friends.
ReplyDeleteMultiple studies have confirmed that Pre-K, HeadStart, etc., early intervention school programs targeting the "disadvantaged" do make an initial positive difference in raising the child's performance.....but,
ReplyDeletedon't go and spend all that taxpayer money nilly-willy, because....
By grade 4-5, the increased performance has evaporated, and the child is once again lagging their peers who came from "non-disadvantaged" households.
If you're into temporary fixes, public posturing, and voter pandering like Sylvester James, then you'll no doubt blunder forward like a herd of lemmings over the cliff.
^^^ Truth @ 10:23.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can add.
Tell Sly: NO More New Taxes!
Slie is trying everything he can think of to leave a legacy.
ReplyDeleteThe airport, toy train, moving the jail from downtown, exterminating the blight from downtown, repairing failed infrastructure, and many more projects are not going Slie's way.
The nicest legacy he could leave is a chair in the mayors office that is not broken after his fat ass has been in it.
Sly is adding so many taxes that it's going to become unaffordable for many to live and shop in KCMO. I could move right across the city border and instantly have no earnings tax, lower sales taxes, lower property taxes and a much lower water bill.
ReplyDeleteNo. The main champion of tax abatement should not be rewarded in any way for costing schools funds.
ReplyDeleteNo fucking way am I now or in the future going to vote for any further city tax increases. So tired of my money being spent on baseball museums and jazz hall of fame. I just paid a $153 monthly water bill. This is outrageous. Screw you Mayor Sly or whatever they call you.
ReplyDeleteLet's find it with develop fee accessed on luxury apartment units. Sales tax is regressive and should be used for necessary things like streetcar
ReplyDeletePlease. No more taxes.
