TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! KANSAS CITY GO BOND SIDEWALK REPAIR STAYS LOSING!!!

Today our blog community offers an incredible glimpse of how City Hall is wasting taxpayer cash more than one year after a controversial general obligation bond election.

Above all, Kansas City taxpayers were promised new sidewalks to boost homeowner value and improve neighborhoods.

And now . . .

WITNESS HORRIFIC KANSAS CITY WASTE AS NEW SIDEWALKS ARE TORN UP RIGHT AFTER THEY'RE PUT IN THANKS TO MISERABLE LOCAL PLANNING!!!

Very special thanks to an AWESOME TKC TIPSTER who sent the photo and explains the sitch . . .

Thought you'd like to see the city in action... 300 Block of North Lawn.

June - Cut down three perfectly healthy sycamore trees to put in brand new sidewalks.

July - Gas company shows up and destroys the new concrete with their work.

Both the city and the gas company, I assume, have phones.

Don't miss the point, THIS shows incompetent scheduling . . . And the city really can't manage all the projects all at once.

And so . . .

ONCE AGAIN WE SEE KANSAS CITY THROWING AWAY SIDEWALK CASH AND BAD MANAGEMENT ON DISPLAY AT THE STREET LEVEL!!!

Looking back I'm not convinced that the vote wasn't totally rigged. Everybody who visited polling places that day reports that most of them were nearly empty yet KC claimed near record turnout in their upset victory . . . Regardless, what we've seen from City Hall after earning more cash by hook or crook is astonishing incompetence and waste followed up by upcoming requests for EVEN MORE tax increases.

Developing . . .

  1. they should be happy that they're getting sidewalks at all. We have put new request in for our Northland neighborhood and told the wait would be at least 2 years.

    1. I assume the gas company is going to pay to have the sidewalked repaved? Or will that cost be passed on to the home owner?

    2. City will have to come back. I've been in this situation before and you have to threaten public works with legal consequences or you'll wind up with at least a 2000 bill for your trouble. Good luck KC!

  2. Don't really get it. You are complaining about work getting done. Yes, there are missteps along the way but what you're seeing is PROGRESS that voters approved. Overall that is a good thing. KC wants new sidewalks and you're seeing that get done. Nitpicking won't make it go any faster.

    1. ^^^^^ Mayor Sly's cronies back against trying to defend their incompetence. This isn't about nitpicking, it's about accountability! If KC keeps wasting money like this, that's less money for more residents to get the sidewalks they were promised!

    2. Go4KC. You must really like the taste of Sly’s butthole as much as you lick it.

  3. This "issue" is total baloney. Think about it. Tree becomes too big, destroys sidewalk. you only have so much space for a sidewalk. Tree's gotta go. New sidewalks. Great! Later, the gas company needs to run a line to a house. following that they replace it. What on earth is the problem Tony?

    1. Kansas Scout, you are missing the point cowboy!

What you forgot is the amazing amount of MONEY wasted because they FAILED TO PLAN. For all the junk we are fed about being a "smart city" this shows us that they couldn't even coordinate a small construction project on a single-block.

Why do it right the first time when you can build it twice at double the cost?

Go4KC's comment is a great example of the attitude that makes KC's City Government so screwed up!

"Something's getting done" as a answer to an total absence of foresight and planning explains and clarifies the devastating waste of resources that characterize the City under Mayor James "leadership".

From the debacle that the Airport Issue has become to as basic a function as sidewalk repairs, total and complete chaos reigns over everything our City Government tries to do.

Someone at City Hall HAS to have the competence to run this City.
If the Mayor can't then recall him!
If the City Manager can't, fire him!
If the Council won't step in and provide leadership, don't re-elect them!

But somehow we have to get some slight modicum of competence at 12th & Oak, and Go4KC's excuse-making isn't getting the job done!

  8. Go4KC, I know Ho's working the street who are smarter and do more for KC than you will ever. You have no idea what a days worth of work is. Crawl out from under the desks at 12th and Oak and see what the real world is like.

  9. There's nothing different with this than has happened time after time for many years.
KCMO government is really big on announcements, ribbon-cuttings, "programs", promises, and claims.
But after the band has left, the stage has been dismantled, the confetti's in the gutter, the balloons have disappeared into the sky, and the mayor and their gang have gone back to 12th and Oak, NOBODY cares if things are actually done well or even at all.
Just like doofus Go4KC said, something is being done.
    Anything, really.
So residents and taxpayers end up with projects done poorly, done over again like in this case, buildings like the airport terminal left to fall down due to lack of basic maintenance, huge cost increases in utility bills due to lack of oversight, repair, and improvement, and on and on.
It's just not enough fun if you can't be cutting ribbons and giving things away.
And just look at mayoral candidates coming along for the next election.
    Nothing will change.

  10. You're missing the point!
    No, you're missing the point!

All of you are missing the point!

Yes, the record-setting most expensive G.O. Bond election was rigged, and the real reason why they had to force it through was to keep KCMO solvent.
For many years, Schulte has played a game of "money shuffle" to keep up the appearance of financial normalcy. It was getting harder and harder to pull off without the house of cards collapsing. The G.O. bonds allowed the Ponzi scheme to continue for a while longer.
KCMO's public safety budget is an out-of-control monster which no one at City Hall has the guts to tame. Because KCMO is managed by fiscally profligate Democrats, their response is to constantly raise taxes.
Most municipalities cover public safety, infrastructure, city services, etc., all from a General fund. KCMO relies upon so many separate taxes and compartmentalized funds that a forensic accountant would have difficulty analyzing it. And they constantly violate their own stated policies. They spend money on frivolous projects and enrich wealthy developers at a time when they can't provide basic services to residents.

SAVE YOURSELF, AND MOVE OUTSIDE KCMO CITY LIMITS

  11. I especially love the sidewalk repairs on 59th ter off of Swope pkwy, they replaced some broken sections but didn’t do anything to the completely missing sections, it’s fucking hilarious and sad at the same time, sidewalk inspectors need to be fired for passing these projects and then there’s the handicapped curbs they put in under the 435 bridge on Eastwood, the best part is there isn’t a sidewalk leading up to these wheelchair curbs, I could go on and on about “spot sidewalk repairs” Go4kc but you’ll just say even more stupid shit like always, you need to be fired along with those “supposed” inspectors, this is complete bullshit and I dare you to go look at these two examples I provided for you but you won’t put down your city issued phone or sLIE’s cock long enough to check it out

  13. Nothing new about this. The corrupt minions at city hall are so incompetent they cannot organize or plan anything. Look at Go4KC's comment, which I have partially referenced; "Yes, there are missteps along the way" and "Nitpicking won't make it go any faster." Missteps cost money and when you add all of the missteps up it amounts to a big chunk of change. Continual lack of planning screws everything up and the airport fiasco is a prime example. Do overs are ridiculous. Way past time for an audit of city hall.

  14. Part and parcel of poor Killa City management and leadership is lack of ethics.
    Surprise, surprise!
Star editorial today decrying lack of ethics.
Quote from Teresa Loar: "I don't understand what the big deal is."
The Star has done more to protect and cover-up her repeated ethical failings and criminal conviction than any other entity.
Will the Star continue to protect her long record of ethical failings so she can be re-elected?

Cannot believe the city minions, Go4KC, are out this weekend trying to control the narrative. They must have changed their weekly assigned schedule on controlling the narrative to include the weekends. The city minions go to extremes to control the narrative.

  19. Freudian slip Go4KC says...

Don't really get it. You are complaining about the very few projects underway. Yes, there are missteps, but if I had my way, you complaining nitpickers would be out there fixing your own damn sidewalks, filling your own damn potholes and hauling your asses with your own damn trash to the landfill. You keep forgetting what you're seeing is PROGRESS that voters approved--a streetcar, for example, albeit via a rigged election that ignored the 70-30 loss when the vote was put before the whole city, and subsidized luxury apartments downtown that you poor whiny losers will never be allowed to see the insides of, let alone rent there. Overall that is a good thing for developers, streetcar constructors, and other grifters who actually pay for city council votes. KC wants new sidewalks and you're seeing that get done at a dead snail's pace. Nitpicking won't make it go any faster.

This^ is what makes reading TKC fun! The humor that is some of the most authentic commentary about the absurdity done and spoken by "gubmint spokespersons", is cathartic for many. If the thinly veiled sarcasms, portray a hint of disgust and a smidgen of hopelessness that is detectable, then the clever wordsmith's works are much the better for it.

  26. I was talking to a friend who works for the gas company and he said they replace the sidewalks they tear out but they get paid to replace them so these sidewalks are costing us twice as much now, he also told me the people putting them in are using the cheapest concrete they can get, he actually told me they break apart real easy.

    ReplyDelete
  27. TKC, you need to stick to what you know. The City has nothing to do with the Gas Company so they have no say when the Gas Company does any work. It would be nice if there could be some coordination but I don’t see that happening!

  28. My Nieghborhood north f the river has been waiting for our FIRST sidewalks since KC annexed it in 1950. More and more of us up here aren't going to vote for anything City Hall wants until we start getting something for our yes vote

  29. 8:36 white people dont get anything done for their neighborhoods, only the coloreds in the central core get things like streets repaved every six or seven years, community centers, parks and well, whatever they want because you know, it’s racist if they don’t get it and it’s racist if whitey gets anything.

Whites need to vote and until you do you ain’t gettin shit, got it

  30. The only thing that will stop the corrupt bosses is a General Strike. It works like this. Bosses borrow money even if they don't need it. A general strike totally wrecks their game because they can't cover the loans. If half the country would go on strike like they did in 1886 it would be possible to take down the oligarchs.

  31. Don’t worry Kansas Citians. Once the Paseo is renamed, all the sidewalks in Kansas City will magically repave themselves and crime will drop dramatically.
