TKC QUESTION: SHOULD KANSAS CITY REJECT 'ARTISTIC' FLAG DESECRATION IN THE CROSSROADS?!?!

After an American flag ruckus on the KU Campus evoked threats and condemnation from Governor Colyer before it was removed, the Kansas City "creative class" now enter the culture war fray.

The flag is a creation of a German artist and its scheduled to display until the end of July.

Checkit:

Flag similar to controversial KU flag flies in Crossroads

Deets:

"The Mid-America Arts Alliance at 20th and Baltimore flies a similar flag that’s also a part of the Pledges of Allegiance project.

"The group says it’s one of eight flags they’ve flown since February to increase civil conversations."

In fairness, and for edification, here's a description of the KCMO artsy display in context:

MAAA: Pledges of Allegiance Brings the Flags of Nationwide Artists to M-AAA Headquarters

Money line:

"Conceived in response to the current political climate, Pledges of Allegiance aims to inspire a sense of community among cultural institutions, and begin articulating the urgent response our political moment demands.

Each flag points to an issue the artist is passionate about, a cause they believe is worth fighting for, and speaks to how we might move forward collectively."

However, unfortunately, there's no place for the public to share comments about the installation.

So, because there's probably a ton of surveillance and the location and thoughtful comments are more powerful than reactionary silliness, we'll start critical public consideration here . . .

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. I think what's important is that the Crossroads gets hundreds of millions worth of subsidy every year from KCMO taxpayers. And Mid-America Arts Alliance also receives a portion of it's funding from government grants. So KC taxpayers are literally funding this anti-American display.

  2. 6:27 nails it. Most people are smart enough not to bite the hand that feeds them. It should come down, just be ready for the snowflake meltdown if it does.

  3. I agree with flag removal. How does the crossroads get millions of subsidies every year? be specific. I'm tired of our tax dollars going to undeserving organizations.

    TOTAL BULLSHIT.

This is just another poke in the eye to "deplorables" covered in a thin patina of bullshit rhetoric that barely covers the giggles as these fucks laugh up their sleeves.

Defacing a BLM, Rainbow, metoo# or, LGBT flag over a business would bring produce an uproar heard around the world. The Star would send reporters, the TV Stations would do live shots of the offending flag, while victims of this insulting outrage would, be, OUTRAGED!!!!!

    Total bullshit.

  7. OK for the crossroads district. Let the public decide whether to patronize businesses that display or approve it. Not OK for KU or other institutions that are supported in large part by public money.

  8. No problem at all with removing these "flags" from display!

As long as we prohibit the display of desecrated flags with the red stripes replaced by Royal Blue "to support our team", and those with the central white stripe replaced with a dark blue one "to support law enforcement".

Also, painting a vehicle with a representation of the flag is questionable, but driving it around with a political poster mounted on each side, as has been done locally, is a direct violation of the U.S. Flag Code prohibition against "displaying the Flag with any advertisement placed thereon".

Can't have inequality with regard to the Flag, either ban all of these or none.

  9. It would be funny if somebody took their flag down for them, along with their whole building.

  10. It would be funnier if @ 7:50 tried to get up the stairs leading out of Mommy's Basement, too - but that ain't gonna happen either.

  15. I did not know the crossroads "community" was subsidized with millions of tax dollars.

    Would someone please provide details?

  16. ^^^^ Do you own homework and check the City's TIF directory. Most of those new developments get taxpayer funding. Don't forget that City Hall also funds a portion of First Friday. Yes, Crossroads gets a lot of KCMO money.

Maybe you need to start asking yourself about why hot homosexual love is on your mind late at night. Lonely? Sorry. Maybe try a dating site. Whichever one you find yourself interested in most.

  28. Yeah, @ 8:02, you think about that sort of thing a lot, don't you?

  29. My take, PEOPLE have a right to free speech as individuals. The government does not. The display of a desecrated flag (violating flag ordinance) should not be permitted on ANY public property, OR any private property where GOV funding in any way has been used. No exceptions, you want to hang it at your house, that's your right. Kansas should penalize KU by funding reductions for not just permitted display, but outright contempt for the flag and support for the SJW's that defaced it.

  30. What the hell is the first poster @ 6:27 last ight talking about?
First, he lives in Independence, not KC, and second, he doesn't pay taxes anyway!

And Barney, since you live on SS Disability, don't forget that your "free speech" in being paid for by tax dollars too!

  31. You may be right, at 10:00, but you forgot to include the "Royals Flags", "Cop Flags", and Kobach's Jeep in the list of things that Kansas needs to ban off "public property", such as the streets!

  33. @10:05, I fully agree with the "cop" and "royals" flags not being displayed; completely cringe-worthy. I call into character judgement of anyone I see displaying one, and WOULD bring it up to the governing authority of any City I saw it in. Matter o fact, if you're thinking of one in particular, let me know where, I'll look at it, and bitch to them. That goofy-ass jeep, I'm not familiar with the "likeness" clauses in flag code, but yes, it too was totally cringe. All public institutions and places should display the flag appropriately.
