Democratic Candidate Hillary Shields Continues to Outraise Cierpiot in SD8
LEE’S SUMMIT – Last year, Democrat Hillary Shields came within 1,980 votes of upsetting Republican lawmaker Mike Cierpiot in a special election for Missouri’s 8th Senate District. In a rematch this year, Shields has outraised Cierpiot for the second quarter in a row, signaling there may be a blue wave coming to Eastern Jackson County.
Just last month, Democrats won a special election for a state senate seat in Clay County with a stunning margin of victory.
Shields, a longtime volunteer with the AFS foreign exchange program and community leader from Lee’s Summit, raised $57,077 for her campaign this past fundraising quarter, while Cierpiot raised $49,279. In the first quarter of the year, Shields beat Cierpiot in fundraising by a 5-to-1 margin, raising over $43,000 compared to Cierpiot’s $8,447.
Bringing in 703 separate contributions from 533 unique contributors, almost 90% of Shields’ donations came from individuals, with an average donation of $80.19.
“It is exciting to see so much support from our community, and I am so thankful to everyone who has believed in us,” said Shields. “Every day I am inspired by all of the people who are getting involved for the first time. The people of the 8th District see what’s happening in Jefferson City, and they recognize that we desperately need a change in leadership.”
Shields’ main areas of concern include supporting local schools, protecting seniors and disabled veterans, and growing the economy by improving our infrastructure.
Hillary Shields works as a paralegal and dedicates her spare time to volunteering for several non-profits throughout the area, including AFS-USA. Hillary and her husband enjoy spending time in downtown Lee’s Summit with their rescue dog, Bowser.

Or the "LGBT agenda": You know, the radical notion that everyone should have equal rights under the law and be treated as human beings even if you do not share their sexual orientation.

On the other hand, one needn't cry many tears for Mr.Cierpot and the Cierpot Intolerance Dynasty. The only "agenda" that really matters to Republican donors involves cutting taxes for the wealthy. In order to preserve that agenda, they will spend as much as they think it will take (laundered tastefully and secretly, of course) to get him elected – just as they did in the special election.
But Hillary is a tough candidate and all the laundered money that the GOP can muster may not be enough to beat her.
