James & Noland Blog: New Asylum Ruling Cuts Off Lifeline for Women Fleeing Domestic Violence

Money line:

Last month, amid waves of protest surrounding the Trump administration’s practice of family separation, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced another immigration policy change that will have dire consequences for human rights and women’s rights. AG Sessions announced a new ruling that overturns a 2014 decision, stating that individuals fleeing gang-related and domestic violence may no longer qualify for asylum. This decision represents a profound step backward in long-established law and years of efforts to protect abused women . . .

To Trump and officials within his administration, women fleeing domestic violence no longer qualify for asylum, as they do not meet the definition of “persecution” or have “credible fear”. Clearly, Trump and AG Jeff Sessions have never taken the time to try to live in the shoes of women in abusive relationships. This comes as no surprise from men like Trump, against whom several credible complaints of sexual abuse have been leveled over the last several years . . .

In effect, a path to protection and a lifeline for women and children around the world has been cut off, leaving tens of thousands of women and children at risk of further violence and abuse.

You decide . . .

  1. A chip off sLIE James shoulder, and his mr sjw’s best friend Brian, they see clients and that’s all, nothing to do with “Trump administration’s practice of family separation” they’re awfully bad lawyers if that don’t know that’s law but whatever, they see taking easy money from people who can’t speak English, effing back stabbing crooks is what they are.

  2. If they can prove they’re fleeing an abusive relationship then maybe, but asylum? Are you kidding me?. They need proof because they themselves have been abusing the asylum card for years and years so a crack down is the right thing to do.

  3. Why can't America be for Americans only. Close the door we full.

  4. If they want to flee an abusive situation, more power to them. Why do they have to flee to the United States though?

  6. Flee domestic abuser in your own country. Get in immigration line and follow our legal process, then you will be welcome.

    1. That is easier said then done. The system is broken and the waiting time is measured in years and not months for anybody but the super rich. Even your own president trump said that there needs to be comprehensive reform.

  7. It could be worse. At least we're not subject to more hip-hop from Sly's other son. This one is a Marine and is just spouting the same politics as his dad. As for Noland, he knows where the biggest checks in KC are cashed for lawyers who didn't get picked up by a major firm.

  8. ^^^^^ Agree somewhat with Angela K. Here but when we talk about a guest worker program I would like to see an emphasis put on skills and labor demands, we need to start thinking about our economy first and not just finding a way to help corporations get around native American workers.

  12. These guys are garden variety grifters in search of outrage that combined with that politically correct alchemy, which monetizes that same outrage at the expense of the middle class, will put them in a BMW in front of Tomfooleries looking for their next case.

  13. There is too much abuse now when claiming asylum so it should be closed down.

  14. Lawyers who are progressives are the worst. I bet these guys don’t even know what Mexico’s immigration laws are and how is it they aren’t doing a top notch job enforcing THEIR southern border. Right now the answer is corruption in the police force. Mexico really is a shit hole. Think if we had a country like South Korea or Japan to our south with a thriving economy and with major drug cartel murders. I would say some of the European countries a while ago would be nice but look at them. They flooded their nations with millions of Islamic immigrants who hate them and their western culture.

    1. You obviously don't know your history. There was a very serious opium epidemic hitting the US back then and a lot of it was being blamed on immigrants but also ignored the great US demand for the drugs. Sound familiar? It should. That is exactly what is happening right now.

      Delete
    2. Please, 5:26. If you're going to say the turn of the century opium problem was equivalent to having a drug cartel-compromised near failed state bleeding vicious gangs on our border you are simply reaching.

  17. 450 I had ancestor that got to Ellis island and was sent back to Hungary because he had tuburqulosis and the rest of the family got through

  22. Right, Ellis Island didn't have violent gangs members like MS-13 passing through.

All those Gumbas from Italy and Sicily were choirboys and not members of any organized crime family.

TKC geezers triggered again and post idiotic rebuttals faster than they can shit their Depends.

Stick with the name calling. At least that doesn't expose your utter lack of knowledge about historical facts.

  27. Santayana was talking about Socialism??? I didn't realize he was clairvoyant.

He wrote "Those who cannot remember the past are CONDEMNED to repeat it" in 1905.

So he was warning us about the evils of socialism over a decade before the founding of the very first Socialist / Communist state?

I think we all know who the real idiot is here.

Santayana was a philosopher and wrote about the human condition, not politics.

Next time stick to just insults and name calling. Maybe you won't fuck that up.

Better yet, just STFU. Here's another quote you are free to misinterpret: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt".

  33. Yeah sure I want a lawyer that doesn't understand the necessity of having secure borders and laws to protect those borders. NOT!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Bad neighborhoods, drug trafficking, violence and domestic abuse should never be a reason for asylum. Under current U.S. law political and religious persecution by a government is the only claim for asylum. I don't believe that the aforementioned scenarios rise to that level. Is it awful? Yes. But the fault lies with their respective governments. Considering that the U.S. sends millions of dollars a year to the Northern Triangle of Central America to mitigate these very problems we should hold them accountable. For example, we could deny visas to the U.S. for the elite individuals from those countries until the governments shape up. More important, why stop at Central America? There are 7 billion people in the world, at least half who live in similar circumstances, how many people shall we let into the U.S.? Asking for friend.
