TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! WHY IS E3 ENDORSING KANDER FOR KANSAS CITY MAYOR WHEN HE LIVES IN SLEAZE SCUMMIT?!?!

Jason Kander earned an impressive array of endorsements upon the launch of his mayoral camapign - Most notably, the son of a former Kansas City Mayor, current Congressman and faith leader spoke up in support of the progressive hopeful.

Whilst Kansas City journalists attempt to play kingmaker, some of the most inquisitive denizens our blog community would rather hold 'influencers' accountable for their pronouncements in the local discourse.

To wit . .

FROM OUR BLOG COMMUNITY: HERE'S AN IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT THE EIII ENDORSEMENT THAT IS LITERALLY OUT OF BOUNDS IN KANSAS CITY!!!

Here's the word:

“Jason Kander and I share a vision of a Kansas City where no one feels they have to move across town or outside the city limits in order to enjoy basic amenities for themselves or their family. I believe as mayor he can turn his passion into progress for every Kansas Citian and I’m thrilled to stand with him in this campaign,” said Dr. Emanuel Cleaver III, Senior Pastor of St. James United Methodist Church.

"According to Jackson County records, Emanuel Cleaver III owns a really nice house in Lee's Summit MO not Kansas City MO. He and his wife pay Lee's Summit taxes and support Lee's Summit schools. So, despite his quote above, it would appear his family did feel the need to move outside the city limits of KCMO! Oops!

"Why might the son of Congressman Emanuel Cleaver publicly endorse Jason Kander for KCMO Mayor, especially so far in advance of the election? And don't you think that Cleaver III would check with his father before doing so?"

There's more to this story and we're planning follow-up.

But for now the, out of respect we're waiting for a response from Dr. Emanuel Cleaver III and sent him a request for comment earlier today. Still no reply but we're hopeful.

And to be fair, the Mayor of KCMO has an impact on the entire metro area so the E3 endorsement is, obviously, important.

However . . . In this mayoral election, vital questions about residency and urban core support about and have yet to be answered. Thankfully, some of the best and brightest among our community are asking pointed questions rather than simply waiting for the next presser.

Developing . . .

  1. Be fair now TKC, the work of Dr. Emanuel Cleaver takes him around the world and the nation. And his church is right in the middle of KC which makes his endorsement even more critical for his flock.

  2. I love the fact that we have a candidate who will represent the whole city with regard to spending and Council attention.

Maybe we can open a City funded Grocery 3 blocks away from Price Chopper in Westport. This is a Food desert area....
A $10 million investment here would be great City policy.

Maybe we can create a 20 member Board to oversee this investment...FULL BENEFITS.
Emanuel, where are you with your support on this???

  3. Kander might be President of the USA, or at least something, so people want to be on board.

Kander and Clever agree on a vision to run Kansas City but Clever won't live here? What kind of vision is that? One that says Kansas City isn't good enough for Clever and his fam. That's a little hypocritical don't you think?

Seems to me Tony has a pretty good point, not incoherent, and defiantly not misled, or uninformed!

  5. Because his father's district covers Kansas City?

Because it's a free country and he can make an endorsement for Lima, Ohio dogcatcher if he so desires?

    Duh.

This post is totally incoherent from a "reasoning" standpoint. Tiny I keep thinking you can't get any stupider but you always surprise, you rascal!

And by radical, I mean "utterly uninformed, easily misled moron."

  6. It seems to me that endorsements aren't going to cut it this election.

I want to know where the candidates stand on the ISSUES! And what have they done for KC. Those should be the two most important factors in determining the next mayor of KC.

  7. I would like to know if just once, just this one time, the City and County will make sure that when they file for election that as of that very moment all of their city, county, state and federal taxes are currently paid and up to date?

  8. Winning strategy for KC mayoral election:

"If I win, I will attempt to kill the new airport project and bring the existing facility up to date."

"I if I win, I will expedite the removal of derelict houses which become dangerous habitats for the homeless and havens for illegal purposes."

"I will cease handing out tax monies for doomed projects such as 18th and Vine and MLK renaming."

"I will turn the spotlight on the Jackson county prosecutor to get and KEEP criminals off our streets."

"In other words, I will try my damdest to make Kansas City safe and great again."

  10. @12:03 - I think you accidentally stumbled upon the winning formula.

  11. 12:03, You forgot to end the toy train fiasco, end all sales tax increases, repeal the go bond bullshit, etc.. You almost had my vote.

  12. E III is just as much a, "Hey look at me media whore as his scamming Daddy is." 12:03 tells it like it is.

  13. All E III wants is to stuff his backpack with KCMO tax money and run off to the suburbs the same as he does with his flocks money.

@12:03 Repair/replace failing infrastructure needs to be added to the list.

  14. The majority of the St James flock don't live in KCMO, or certainly not in the neighborhoods around the church.
And selling out their flocks for political and personal gain is a very long tradition with east side revs, so no surprise there.
12:03am has some solid and very practical recommendations, but KCMO would have to start electing people to municipal office who actually have some appreciation, understanding, or even an interest in the responsibilities of a city official, and there's certainly no indication whatsoever that Kander is knowledgeable at all.
In fact, he's interested in pretty much nothing but himself.
Of course, none of the other mayoral candidates' performance as councilmembers over the years have shown any interest either, so the pantry is bare as usual.
Whoever wins, the priorities will continue to be developer subsidies, glamor projects, lots of rah rah, "what are you going to run for next?", ignoring basic services, moving money around from account to account, and insider dealing.
The only brake that might slow the nonsense down is the massive and long-term debt Sly and the gang have burdened the taxpayers with for decades.
    Only the names change.

  15. Who cares what Emmanuel Cleaver's son thinks? I had never even heard of the guy and I've lived in KC for years.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And let's not forget that when Cleaver was elected mayor of Kansas City the first thing he did was move his family off Blue Ridge and Gregory so his kids could go to the Raytown School District from which they graduated. I'm tired of these fake religious people not practicing what they preach. You all are hypocrites we all see it I don't understand why you don't. And why do we listen to people who want to tell us how to live in our area when they refuse! To live in the city that they are trying to tell us how to run. Go back to where you live go back to where your rock is and crawl back under it..

  17. But what if his Church of Economic Spirituality is in KC proper ...

With respect...when you have the TRUTH and the FACTS to back it up, you don't need to give a courtesy heads-up or wait for a response that's not forthcoming.
