This weekend Kansas City faith community and neighborhood leaders touted weekend "ceasefire" efforts propped up by anti-gun rhetoric. Sadly, the initiative to stop local homicides over the weekend failed only 4 hours after midnight with fatal stabbing.
To be fair . . .
IS THE KANSAS CITY "CEASEFIRE" STILL ON CONSIDERING THAT THE POOR WOMAN WAS BRUTALLY STABBED TO DEATH AND DIDN'T MEET HER DOOM BY WAY OF GUNSHOTS?!?!?
Sure, that's a technicality but the local murder by way of the knife also reminds us that guns aren't the only method of local homicide. Moreover, thankfully KC hasn't confronted many mass shootings and instead it's the slow, bloody, drip of consistent and often domestic or personal conflict related killing that has contributed to the recent spike in slayings over the past few years.
This is 2018 homicide #67 so far compared to 85 last year and 57 the year before that . . .
Of course we hope and pray for peace yet still remain opposed to the empty rhetoric against guns which isn't the answer to deadly violence in KCMO. Instead, as always, a lack of respect for life and hatred is the crux of the problem.

Fox4: A woman is dead after a reported knife attack on Kansas City’s east side.

KCPD officers say the woman was found dead at around 4:00am Saturday morning. Kansas City police said they were called to the 8500 block of East 92nd Street, which is near Bannister and James A. Reed roads.

Honestly thought they could do it this year, last year there were some shootings but thankfully nobody died. I think what we're seeing is that things are getting worse out there.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe in that karma crap but I will say that this is some kind of poetic justice. They put on a media blitz against guns and the weekend murder that breaks the cease fire is a fatal stabbing.
DeleteAnd the three pedestrians ran over this morning can testify about the dangers of a driver intent on killing people walking on the street. There are a lot of ways to die in KC but the constant focus on guns has very little to do with keeping people safe.

I don't want anybody else killed. It would have been nice if the program worked but obviously just telling people to put guns down isn't going to cut it, if they're just going to go back home and get their knives.
Very sad. Pray for the families. All of them, getting back to teaching people some value and respect for one another is the only way to stop this killing.

ReplyDeleteIt would be hard to tell if the Ceasefire works or not. If we try nothing, we know that doesn't work. I have to believe that the Ceasefire helps whether we can quantify it or not.
ReplyDeleteThe best weapon against future killers in kc is fathers in the home. The traditional black family of a strong black father figure is gone. Church on Sunday’s, manners, yes sir and yes ma’am, expectations to get good grades, military service, etc. it’s gone, and I doubt it’s coming back.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a culture of kids raising kids. Women living in poverty having multiple children than are fed and raised on EBT and public housing. A toxic public city school system, and the mothers are not educated. Hell, these single moms are dumping these kids off at the plaza. That’s part of the plaza problem.

Knife control will work just as well as gun control. After all guns have been taken from law abiding citizens, then we will all have to use "DULL" knives to protect ourselves from the thugs who STILL HAVE GUNS.
