NEWSFLASH!!! MAYOR SLY DEDICATES LAST YEAR OF HIS TENURE TO RACIAL CONVERSATION RATHER THAN FIXING KANSAS CITY INFRASTRUCTURE!!!!

Check the Mayor making a commitment to a conversation about race rather than keeping any of his promises made during the GO BOND campaign or any number of the tax increases that have defined his tenure.

Mayor Sly's Blog: KC Race & Equity Initiative: Starting the Conversation

Mission statement:

"In the year I have left in office, it’s my goal to begin the process of normalizing conversations about race and inequity. That’s why we’ll have a series of public conversations and trainings this fall, beginning with our kick-off event on August 29 at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center. Our goal is to help community members come together to develop a common language to talk about race, to begin understanding how our collective past has shaped the systems that perpetuate racial inequity, and to begin to heal . . . Yet, while we’ve accomplished so much, we’re still recognized as one of the most segregated cities in the country. Kansas City has yet to come to terms with its past and the structural biases that continue to hold our community back. We as a community must address the history and systems that have resulted in perpetual inequities among races and cultures in our community."

Sadly, rather than working on improving infrastructure and city services . . . Mayor Sly seems dedicated to creating more divisive discourse.

You decide . . .

  1. Sounds about right. Why do anything to fix this city when you can just complain and blame it all on somebody else?

    1. I support my Mayor. He is doing the right thing and he can also work to fix the streets too while he's at it!

    2. All of those stats that he cited would be helped if he didn't give so much money away to developers.

  3. Why did he wait seven years to all of a sudden try and fix racial problems? Well, to be honest, there really isn’t one in killa shitty, yes folks they’re really isn’t a racial problem here, only in the blacks minds as long as they can milk free money out of a imaginary problem. In other words sLIE ain’t gonna do nothing for the entire next year of office, just like forte did.

  4. 6:48 very true, it was his job to fix this city and all he did was let our city fall into shambles and fed developers a steady stream of free money.

  5. Unbelievable, he's out with a bullhorn (not that that was about race) and he was dividing the city and now he wants to talk and bring everyone together?? Not going to happen Mayor! The infrastructure in Kansas City for all people, especially for the poor folks who pay 25k and up per year is in BAD shape. how about painting some lines on Independence Ave and Truman road instead of stupid bike lanes that no one is going to use in those areas. Armour Blvd is a mess!

Not to mention the flash mobs who have ruined the Plaza area because he didn't want to offend little black kids who are on the road to destruction, with their black on white hate.

Get over yourself Mayor, it's over for you. WAY TO LATE.

  9. so we need more white on white crime..... to be fair?

  10. This "project" will just turn into the same old blame game "facilitated" by the same tired old grifters who have been paid millions of tax dollars over the years to make the same old tired speeches.
Folks like Grant, Brooks, Hartsfield, and all the rest ready for some nice paydays putting on dog-and-pony show workshops and being sure to NEVER mention behavior, personal responsibility, working hard in school, having respect for yourself and others, getting and keeping a job, supporting your kids, and all the other facets of adult life that enable people to participate in and benefit from being productive members of society.
    Deja vu.
    And pointless.

^You said it, just like people of good character from all races and riches believe in and live by those same values.

  11. Here is the conversation: white people stay west of Troost. Negroes stay east of Troost. Take Sly, Jermaine, Quinton and lardass Canady with you.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The complaints about residential segregation are bullshit. Absolutely nothing prevents an east of Troost black family from moving to a white neighborhood in southwest KC, Johnson County or KC North. Sly's race card no longer takes any tricks.

  13. How he is going to fix stupid ?

  14. How is it racial when the biggest problem in KCMO is black men gunning down children and other black men in drive by shootings? Cmon man, we dont need a bow tie botox of sayings.

  15. The information the mayor provides is valuable but I think a lot of it falls on deaf ears because the citizens of Citizens Against Virtually Everything are too quick to criticize. They can only see their own issues and pet projects but don't care about moving the city forward as a whole. Too many special interests and neighborhood loudmouths in KC. That's the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Too many geezers in KC thinking that their opinion matters when the don't know sh*t and don't do sh*t. THAT is the biggest problem in KC.

    ReplyDelete
  17. ^^^^ Please stop with the "geezer" bullshit. It's annoying and probably just means that you're scared of getting old more than most people.

As for Sly, there are probably more important things he can focus on but I really doubt that he has enough friends left on the council to get anything substantial passed.

  18. What an embarrassing piece of work this clown is. Hasn't KC learned ANYTHING by electing these baboons to run our city? Evidently not.
We haven't had a hands-on kick ass mayor since Charles Wheeler, when everygoddamnthing in this town was built or rebuilt. Since then we've gotten nothing but what we fucking deserved, I guess.
And no I don't wear depends, you P.O.S.

You must be smoking something really fun to come up with that kind of b.s. statement @10:06. It's not that I don't like Charlie but he was just another part of the Democratic mob.

If you really want a mayor who stood out from the crowd, Dick Berkley was KC's longest serving mayor and the best our city has seen. Really hope that Jason Kander can live up to his legacy.

  21. There's a park on the river here in town called "Do-nothing Park" and it's named after your favorite mayor, knucklehead. Berkley did nothing for Kansas City but cry croc tears for the Hyatt victims. THAT'S his legacy and apparently everybody but you knew this.

  22. Sly was never qualified to be mayor in the first place. He's a total egomaniac looking for his next gig. Thank goodness a majority of the City Council finally figured him out, and he'll do no more damage, other than his constant grandstanding.

    Goodbeye Sly, and good riddance!!
