KCFD OVERTIME CRACKDOWN AFTER ALL THESE MANY YEARS???

Unlikely.

But there's an election coming up so all of the clever politicos have to try and get a good quote on the topic that won't ever be resolved.

City council taking steps to control increase in overtime pay spending in KCFD

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - City council leaders are taking steps to get a handle on overtime pay at the Kansas City Fire department after an audit released earlier this year revealed more money has been spent than budgeted for a number of years.

  1. KCFD overtime crackdown by electeds right before an election?
    No chance.
    Big talk, though, as usual.

  2. Little secret that they've been doing for a long time finally gets brought to light.

  3. People stealing from the city, like our mayor and city council, want to be the only people stealing from the city. KCFD has been stealing for decades.

  6. So per this really weak and poorly written article, the city council had a meeting about a meeting to talk about talking about overtime overruns at KCFD?

  7. Quinton Lucas was at a fire last weekend that required overtime because the call came in before shift change and ran several hours after, he should know better

  8. Overtime on a fire or police department is going to happen no matter how much you try to avoid it. Fires and criminals don't always wait till start of shifts to do their dirty deeds. Staff shortages cause huge overtime costs as well. I'm willing to bet if an audit was ever done at the water dept overtime costs it would probably really scare you at what the figure is.

  9. ^^I am willing to bet you have no fucking clue what you're talking about!

  10. The council is taking a page out of the KCK playbook about trying to control the overtime. Look at what happened in KCK.

  11. How about the nice little tidbit of over a million hours of overtime already this year by Mo dep't of corrections? Organizations like our fire Dept or police or the state DOC that abuse overtime to such an extent have a poisonous culture and a staggering sense of entitlement at the direct expense of the taxpayers. Why don't teachers get overtime if cops firemen and jail guards do?

  12. THANKFUL THAT VAST MAJORITY OF KCKFD IS GOOD PEOPLE!7/26/18, 5:11 PM

    In a perfect world:
NO firefighters' or paramedics' scheduled hours EVER get reassigned! NO calls for service occur beyond each shift's schedule,--NO equipment failures happen while crews are engaged at service,--NONE of them get sick,--NONE have family funerals to attend--NONE have spouses, children, or parents who are in ICU or hospice,--NONE attend family weddings, baptisms, graduations,etc.--NONE have need for personal time off,--NONE get injured,--NONE get terminated or suspended,--AND, NONE DARE TO EVER DIE ON DUTY OR OFF, BEFORE RETIREMENT!!!

So, once the shift rosters are set and posted HOW THE HELL DO DEPARTMENTS AVOID OVERTIME WHEN PERSONNEL DO NOT LIVE AND WORK IN A PERFECT WORLD ?!

The algorithms of available personnel and what the varying overtime costs will be for all shifts' coverages is affected not only by the amount of rosters' positions being reworked, but also by labor laws, union contracts, and the municipal budgets. In some departments MANDATORY reassignments go to lower paid personnel to control over-time costs. Swaps are denied in some instances when no suitable fill-in is willing or able to report. Cousins' and even siblings' weddings may be missed! Too many hours worked by the legal allowances is BIGLY BAD AND JEOPARDIZES LIVES!
