KANSAS CITY SUNDAY FACT CHECK: MAYOR'S OFFICE EVADES POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITY!!!

The sordid topic of "local control" is once again gaining traction among Kansas City activists and political hopefuls but right now we want to highlight a helpful bit of testimony that puts the issue in the proper perspective.

Cutting to the chase . . .

THE MAYOR'S OFFICE DOWNPLAYS POWER OVER KANSAS CITY POLICE IN A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY!!!

Moreover, KCMO is at a crossroads, we're the last major city in the nation that uses the state appointed police board model — A longstanding complaint of many social justice warriors.

Check specific examples as the political efforts of activists to exert more influence threatens to endanger public safety given the complicity of this town's highest office . . .

KC mayors hold the cards with the city’s police

Money line from guest columnist and Kansas City policy expert Patrick Tuohey:

"Mayors in Kansas City long have complained about a lack of control over the police department. But the truth is more nuanced. While Kansas City mayors thankfully do not have the raw political control that mayors elsewhere do, they are not as powerless over policing as some seem to suggest. What they do seem to be lacking during this years-long spike in homicides, however, is willpower."

Read the argument in its entirety.

  1. Passing the buck is how most of Kansas City government runs. Nobody wants to take responsibility for tough decisions. Luckily, most people don't vote so there's no real reason to do anything different.

    1. Think about the levels of violence we've had so far. If we hand over local control to city council and all of the people who have influence over them, cancel Kansas City, because this town will be the next Detroit.

  3. If you think the police are slow to react now, wait until they have to justify everything they do to fat reverends and assorted SJWs. Cops will decide that it's a bad career move to work at their jobs, and they will be right.

  4. The police work for the state, how bout the state take complete control over the city, sLIE is too busy giving away all our money to care. Besides, him and Frankie boy and mean jean are the most incompetent assholes on the face of the earth, and to think we’re paying them to eff our city and lives up,

  5. How much corporate welfare has the city given out over the past few years?

  6. The article mentioned the key is leadership and leadership is where KCMO is lacking. Slie caters to the developers and could care less about the citizens or their needs. In short the mayor is controlled by the developers and thus the city government is corrupt. A major audit needs to be performed.

  7. Send sly to talk to the cops with a sword in his hands.

  8. The mayor's office avoids everything except face time before the camera while wearing his rainbow bow tie. Prime example is the sidewalk replacement with the go bond money. No planning or taking responsibility for anything.

  9. Mayor sits on that worthless Board of Police Commissioners.

  10. The police board has a payroll over 1.5 million dollars no wonder they won’t let the city have control because then there won’t be a need for them and they won’t make that easy money

  11. All sLIE wants is your money, he don’t care about anything else

  12. @4:23 you are grossly misinformed! members of the police board receive $200 a month. this is in state statute.

  13. @4:23, For God's sake please contact your local Kansas City School District rep and ask for my money back. Clearly you are so stupid that you cannot possibly hold a job that would pay enough money to allow you to pay taxes. You can have my money back.

The math is pretty simple, but I will go slow.

5 board members x 200 per month each equals 1000 per month for the entire board.
1000 x 12 months equals 12,000 per year for the entire board.
The BOPC has been in existence for almost 80 years so 80 x 12,000 equals 960,000 for the entire board for the entire time it's actually existed. Just over 500,000 less than what you stated is their yearly expenditure.

So dumbass, Google RSmo Chapter 84, and read it for yourself. It is filled with multisyllabic words so make sure you have a dictionary next to you for help.

  14. This posting is just like the one above it:
No leadership, management, oversight, or accountability from electeds in KCMO city government.
Same types of comments and observations apply.
In fact, name ANYTHING about city government that KCMO does well.
    First, you have to care.
    And these clowns don't.
